I've had people tell me that they "wish" I would believe in God.

Well, go ahead, make your wish--but also, tell me WHY I "should" believe in God.

Just like Cinderella, your wish won't last.

You have until midnight my time (2 hours, 35 minutes) to tell me why, and I promise to take every reason into full consideration--NOT from the point of view of an atheist, but from the point of view of someone undecided.

Time starts now.

Make your wish.

But tell me why.

Here is a problem: I cannot convince you.

I can present arguments and evidence and "proof" that there is a Supreme Being (and you can call S/He whatever you want, OK?)

I can point to actions and events that go far beyond mere scientific happenstance or a refugee from the law of averages.

I can relate miracles and visions and other actions that reveal a Divine Hand.

It all means nothing if you will not believe.

If you are dead set against anything I present, then I might as well sit on a Whoopie Cushion.

faith comes from within. You must find it within yourself to believe in something greater than you.

If it isn't there, no amount of storytelling will change your heart.

Most young people who are not raised with a religion or for some reason have been disillusioned require thirty five YEARS, not thirty five minutes and an hour.
After a while, over the years, most of us begin to feel the burn of the fire of life and mortality starts to slap you in the face. Late at night, when the grim joke reveals itself to you in all its reality you want nothing more than to grab hold of the warm love in your life. You wonder what the point of everything is, you realize that you have to make some very important descisions.
Look to the sky, look to the trees, look to the animals and look to the earth- the soil. Look to the good in the earth, the way everything is connected and how positivity flows like a wave over all of us as does the negative. Understand that the unseen, unsensed mathmatics is at the core of everything and that numbers have no beginning and no end and are infinitely divisible. Realize that god does not have to be a sentient governing body. Realize the potential of man living in the peace that religion really preaches outside of strange customs, traditions and histories. Realize that by being a good person to yourself, the earth, and to others you really DO believe in something-something that manages you in the direction of goodness, and that you only call this something by a different word.
Many people who read the Bible quote that "God created man in his image". Many people also interperate quotes from the Bible in drastically different ways. "God made people in his image" can be interpreted inwardly too, if you like.

well, i have no reason on why you should believe in god. from my view, if god exists, he/she/it has no bearing on our daily lives. i mean... look at this world! it's a crapfest!

however, on the grounds that it is good to be open minded. to discount the possibility of something greater entirely is to join a herd.

furthermore, the cosmological argument is a good argument. of course, the laws of physics break down at the point of the singularity, but this doesn't answer the fundamental question: something from nothing.. how so?

until an explanation is offered, god seems just as likely. god of the gap seems actually a little more reasonable based on current knowledge. after all, if another universe spawned the singularity, the answer requires study of that universe. which may be impossible. and the origins of the universe could remain unknown for a very long time.

taking all this in, doesn't it seem at least somewhat possible that a entity or force that would be considered god exists?

well, i tried. points for effort? lol.

That's just it; no one can talk you into believing in God.
Have you ever watched the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? There is a scene where Indiana must cross over to the other side a very bottomless chasm. His time is short and the only way to cross is to just take that step out onto the thin air!
As far as he could see there was NO WAY this was going to work! But he had to take the leap of faith. He closed his eyes, took a big step...and ta-dah! There had been a bridge made of solid rock just right in front of him the whole time!
That is so close to how one can explain God's presence in our lives.
He's there, but you'll NEVER know until you just step out there and say, "I here am!"
God loves you! More than anyone could ever explain. He made you, just the way you are because that's who He wanted to get to know.
Ask Him into your life; your heart. Say something to the effect, "God, I know I'm a sinner, (I know I'm not perfect), I know you sent your son Jesus Christ to die for my sins, I know He died and was raised from the dead. I ask you Jesus, to come into my heart and make me whole. Thank you God for hearing my prayer; amen."
I hope that if you don't pray this tonight that you Will at least keep your heart open to His voice.
God bless!

I don't wish for you to believe in God, because I don't believe that not believing in God is wrong. It just isn't right for me.

I wish for you to seek, if it be god, or music, or sex, or science, or humility. I don't care. I just wish for you to seek. To find purpose. I do not care if you are a true atheist, but I wish for you to realize that atheism is as much a choice as anything else. I try not to make a choice not knowing what I'm getting into.

There is more to the world than the Science, than the physical. I know this, deeply. I am not sure on my beliefs of god, or jesus, or anything such as that. But I know there is more out that- and I think it is a shame to get locked into a course of disbelief. Not because it is wrong, but because it is limiting.

I highly recomend seeking for truth, but that is my path. I find the path of truth doesn't always lead where I expect it too. Right now I'm finding it going in the opposite of what I expected.

Scripture says 'Blessed is he who believes and does not see'. It seems, in my humble opinion, that you must see to believe. Correct?
If so, then go to my weblog at witnessnbr1.blogspot. com, click on '2005' and see the post 'signs in the heavens'. Get a bible, and turn to Matthew 24: 29-31 and read that. Then look at my post and the PICTURE of what it looked like, and realize that what you just read in Matthew was predicted 1900 YEARS AGO. BTW it looks like the pyramid on the back of the dollar bill doesn't it?
Is there a God? Now YOU must decide.

you're not an atheist, you're an agnostic otherwise you wouldn't have posted this question. when it comes down to it, no one can prove to you that a higher power exists. people that believe in God have gained their beliefs from study and prayer or because they were raised to. There are many things to take into account when deciding what to believe. i would suggest that you read some of the bible or religious text of your choice and pray about it. keep an open heart and be humble or you may miss your answer.

It is my wish that you would come to know and love the Lord. First off the Lord loves you with all of His heart. He is crazy about you. He gives us hope in hopelessness and light in the darkness. You are never without a "friend" to talk too. He will never leave you or forsake you. But the most incredible thing ever, is that even if you have done the worst sin imaginable, He will forgive you. He loves you, Me. [[Just Me]], and desperately wants you to come to know Him.

The Lord has been a part of my life for over 25 years, and I can't tell you of all the wonderful blessing He has done for me. I would love to see you come to know Christ and it is so easy to do. All you have to do is ask.. Ask Jesus to come into your heart and forgive you of your sins. It is that easy. I will pray for you in your decision. May God be with you.

have u ever tried sitting still on your own soing nothing, thinking of nothing and felt like ure communicating with something so peacful and loving? or even sat around with some company and u communicated without saying a word, u cant even figure out what the message they are trying to send is, but u fully get what they are trying to do. didnt u feel this connection all the time with something so great at moments of clarity? those are some of the reasons why i believe in a non-physical power out/in there that supplies us with peace and cause some ppl to feel all those feelings. after all, the existance of god is not proven because of the way people percieve god.
u dont have to believe, u dont have to be anything but urself :)
if ure ever gonna believe in god then u'd better realize this on your own with your own reason.

Nothing I say to you will convince you dear.
God has to draw you to him, do you feel him tugging at you? Your "heart" may or not be ready. Many don't come to know the real God until they have bad times. When they realize how much they really do need him.

Please remember my words when you are down and out, or when a loved one dies and you get down on your knees and pray for help.

I know for a fact God is real, no doubts, not even a hint of a doubt. I was NOT raised Christian but came to know him through an answered prayer. He answered my prayer 20+years after I prayed it, right at the correct time. I had prayed about something to happen as an adult and he came through Loud and Clear!
I got my butt into a church after that! It really really shook me up.
