My boyfriend and I got into a pretty nasty fight tonight. I really need some input from someone who knows him. I met his cousin a few months ago and she and I hit it off very well. I would like to ask her opinion. I would never want her to take sides, but since she is the only one I can ask who knows him also. Do you think it is wrong?

Yes, leave the family out of it, no matter how hard you try to avoid making them choose sides, he may not see it that way.

What insight do you need to know? Maybe you should sit him down and have a heart to heart and get your insight from him, rather than involve his family.

I understand your thought pattern, but I can see it stirring some issues up that will merely add to the ones you already have going on

i e-mailed my boyfriend's cousin once, they are or were close. i had only met him about three times but i had liked him well enough to ask for help.

he was great. he offered his perspective and it was grounding in a way.

don't ask for her to take sides, just explain what happened and for her opinion (if it is extremeley personal, naturally, don't be overly explicit). not only can she give you an insider's perspective, she can give you a neutral assessment. I suggest it.

**Although I should note that he was kind of mad that I talked to his cousin while we were fighting, he was okay with it when we got back together.
