Depends on the policy of the company you work for. You should check. Most companies would not fire someone for staying home with a sick child, but I think it would depend on how long you stay home and what kind of illness the child has.

If you signed a contract stating family sick leave policies you CAN be fired if you breach that contract, regardless of the family sick leave act. If your employer states that employees can not take any more than x amount of days for family sick leave during an xx amount of time and YOU signed that contract and you breach it you CAN be fired. The family sick leave act does not mean that you can ignore company policy.

hell no u can't be fired. you have laws that protect you from being fired for caring for the a sick child or elderly relative that you are directly responsible for. your company should have policies for taking sick leave to care for someone and you should have a union that can assist you with protecting yourself.excercise ur right to be informed

My dad was fired for being in the hospital with a broken back. The next day, the company went down and everyone who worked there lost their jobs anyway.
Good luck; if you ARE fired, it will be completley unfair. Legal as far as I know, but...
good luck again. i hope your kid gets well.

As long as you called in, there is no reason for your employer to fire you. You should check with the civil liberties group online if you were fired for that reason.

some laws vary to state to state, if you tell them why, and its only a day or two i would think not,, you could take a leave as well,, but they dont pay you for it.. its the law, in my state.. we could sue them if we are fired without a good cause......
