2 cops pulled up to me while I was sitting in the fire lane at a local Walmart.(about 40 feet from the front entrance.) My engine was running and I was in the drivers seat. If they would have asked me to move I would have. I explained to them that my husband will be out in just a minute and they went straight for my license and registration. My purpose in stopping there was so that I could see when my husband exitted the store. The entire storefront is full of handicapped spaces and there is nowhere close to park to see him come out. There are no signs outside of the Walmart indicating NO PARKING other than the stripes on the ground that say FIRE LANE. But, I was just standing there for a few moments. Should I bother to fight it?

you could fight it, but you would lose and possibly be subject to court fees on top of the ticket. the fire lanes in front of businesses are there for that purpose- fire and emergency vehicles. people believe that if they are in the car sitting in the fire lane they aren't "parked" in the fire lane. my husband is a former police officer and he said once you pull to a stop in a fire lane you are considered to be parked there. on a more personal note, i had the unfortunate experience of seeing an ambulance called for someone who had a heart attack at our walmart not long ago and when the ambulance arrived, store personnel had to go out and actually make people move from the fire lane so the ambulance could get in. the delay could have cost this man his life. please respect this designated fire lane area and don;t park there.

Everyone takes a test to get their driver's license and everyone KNOWS you DO NOT park, even for a minute, in a fire lane. It's COMMON SENSE.

So, you parked in the fire lane (everyone knows its illegal), with the engine running (destroying the environment and using precious fuel), waiting for your husband. Apparently neither he nor you are disabled or you would have been able to park in the handicapped spaces. Sounds like laziness to me. You broke the law due to laziness.

Just pay the fine or they will make you look really, really stupid when you go to fight it. I hope that you learn a lesson from this.

I am sure that you are not telling the entire story as it happened. Perhaps when approached by the police and asked to move, you resisted? mouthed off? said I am only waiting for my husband he will be right out. Am I right?, think I am. Pay the ticket and consider it a lesson learned. You also might want to rethink your attitude and actions towards the police. Stop blaming others for your mistake.

No stopping, standing, or parking in a Fire Lane. Pay the fine, you don't have a defense.

NEXT TIME: Tell your husband that you will circle the parking lot while he gets what he needs. If he comes out and you are not right in front, tell him to wait inside the store near the entrance and to look for you, as you will be there any minute.

Are you serious or just a moron?
I've seen lots of 'FIRE LANE' areas, but I've never seen one that said 'FIRE LANE EXCEPT FOR PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT THEY ARE ENTITLED TO PARK HERE BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE TO OBEY THE LAWS BECAUSE THEY WERE JUST WAITING FOR 'A MINUTE' FOR SOMEONE TO COME OUT OF THE STORE".
You broke the law, you got caught, pay the fine.
Over the years, I've probably written as many as a thousand 'fire zone' citations, and I've never seen a judge dismiss any of the citations.
But, why don't you go explain your 'special circumstances' to the judge.
I'm sure he'll understand.

What part of NO parking don't you understand? If signs were posted and you parked there, that makes you in the wrong, not the officers. Pay up and grow up and don't waste the taxpayers money fighting for something that you did wrong.

You were 'standing' in a posted fire lane. Pay the dam* ticket and be more careful the next time.

I wouldn't bother fighting it. In many places, if you are standing on a marked fire lane (meaning marked on the pavement) you face a penalty.
