It was written by Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel back in the late 60s. They made it most famous, but Aretha Franklin made a gospel version that was off the hook!! Everybody has done this song. Johnny Cash, Aaron Neville even Elvis and Clay Aiken! There are even Chinese versions of it. lol.

Paul Simon Wrote it, and until recently with the exception of back up vocals Art Garfunkle sang it as a solo which was attributed to the many factors of the duo breaking up.

While this song has been covered by other artists, I still consider it to be a song for Art Garfunkel to sing.

Written by LeAnn Rimes, sung by Simon and Garfunkel.
I remember in High School (or was it Junior High) having to write an essay on what the song meant.

For some reason, I 'm thinking Aretha Franklin wrote it and sang it. I would have to look it up, but that is my guess.
Looked it up. My Bad...Paul Simon
