Apart from the quickening power of regeneration performed by the Holy Spirit in a person's heart, no one has the innate ability to make ANY choice which God deems to be spiritually good. As Ephesians 2:1 says, unbelievers are "dead in trespasses and sins." Every action that an unbeliever makes is contaminated by sin. From the root of sinfulness comes the fruit of sinful deeds.

We NEED God to change our basic constitution. We need HIm to make us "new creatures" so that the roots of our lives can tap into the holiness of the Spirit's own nature. As the Bible says, "Be ye holy for I am holy." God must open a sinner's heart so that he may accept the twin graces of faith and repentance which are required for salvation, thereby becoming positionally holy in God's sight.

As Jesus said, "Without Me, you can do NOTHING." By that, I understand that He means that we can do nothing spiritually good apart from the working of God's Spirit in our lives.

Soli Deo Gloria!

What you are really asking here is why we shouldn't be able to decide for ourselves what is good and what is bad, well that is what Adam and Eve wanted to do also, and just look around, people have been doing good by their own standards and deciding for themselves the good and the bad for centuries, from the time of Adam and Eve, look around you, how much do you see that is good?Is it good what you see abounding in this world? Can you honestly say that humans do not need guidance from God? yet this is what part of Satan's challenge was in the garden of Eden. That humans do not need God. Yes the effects are visible, it certainly is neccessary that we have God's guidance if we are to lead a truly happy and purposeful life, in true Peace and Security, mankind cannot, even with the best intentions, achieve good, on their own merit, with Satan's invisible influence.Only the only true and incorruptable God can guide us humans to true Peace and Security, to be able to live a happy and productive enjoyable life.

God created you, so how do you not need Him? He holds your very life in His hands. Everything in our lives happens for a reason. Everyone needs salvation from their sins. We have to ask forgiveness from those sins and truly repent (turn completely from that sin and try not to do it anymore). And that is the only way we can live good lives. It is possible to live a sinless life, if we choose too. We are humans though and we do make mistakes. If something happens that we do sin, we must ask for forgiveness. Alot of people believe that they are doing good, but the only way you are truly doing good is you seek the Lord and do His will not your own. There are alot of "good" people that will not make it to heaven. The bible says "Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. If we choose to go in our own way we are in trouble even if we think it is good and pleases us. It may not please God. 'There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death' Proverbs 14:12. He loves us greatly and wants us to come to the knowledge of the truth of His Love and salvation. By praying to God and seeking Him, He will answer your questions. If a heart is wholly open to His truth, He will give it to you. Read the Holy Bible and you will know. I hope that you choose to receive Jesus as your saviour. He is the greatest gift you will ever receive. He is the best friend I have ever had.

There are a lot of people who believe this way, paraphrased it goes like this:

"I can read, why do I need to go to school?"

God is not about doing good, if God was just about being good anyone who has ever done good could get into Heaven.

God is more like school.
You submit to the authority of the teacher.
You do not let anyone but the teacher make rules in the classroom.
Do not pretend that the doorknob is a teacher.
You will call the teacher by their correct name.
You come to school on school days.
Be good to your parents in class.
Don't kill people in class.
Don't steal from people in class.
No kissing or fooling around in class.
No lying about other students in class.
Don't feel bad if someone has a nicer looking pencil or other school supplies than you do.

Sounds a lot like the rules in any classroom or work place or anywhere I have ever been.

You are asking why we need a Teacher, once we have learned to read. Why we need a "Boss" once we have learned to work. Why do we need a customer once we have learned to sell?

I really cannot believe that people do not get this. To me, this is all brain dead simple. Life is where we learn to make good choices. If we make good choices we go to heaven. If we make bad choices we go to hell.

Just like school or work or anything else. If we make good choices, yada yada yada. If we make bad choices, yada yada yada.

You, and everyone else has lived with this same ideology, all over the world, for your whole life.

Without God, there can be no good or bad. Good and bad have to be relative to some standard...the standard of all things good is the True God.

We need God so we can recognize good when we see it.

It's sorta like asking if the glass is full or empty...but there's no glass.

What is the issue if there's no defining line between "good" and "bad?" What is "good?" What is "bad" if there isn't a universal definition of the word?

If God created you with free will then it's the free will that he gave you which enables you chose to do good in the first place.

But if there is no God then without an ultimate example of goodness to measure against, how do you define what is good and what is not?

Doing good is a attribute of his that was given to us, like the fruits of the spirit.Evil is the opposite of good so it shows that build in god like qualities.

We can -and do- good without the need of any imaginary gods. People have don more harm in the name of their imaginary gods then for any other reason. Take Bill Gates and Warren Buffet for example.

They will say, you can live without god in this life, but in the next life, you cannot live without god. How do we know there is a next life? What evidence is there of heaven and hell? Define them to me. I have heard that hell is an eternal fire, and I have heard it is eternal solitude. What I have never heard is a full definition of heaven or hell. I have heard plenty of vague generalities, but nothing ever definite. So, I agree, we do not need god.

There are many reasons why I need God, but maybe the most basic one is that I have no parents and I am a wife and a mom. I need support and guidance in my spirituality and God provides that for me.
