I may sound awful, but I don't want the father to be involved with the upbringing of my unborn child. It will be up to the baby if he wants to meet him when he's older. Basically, falling pregnant to him was a mistake. He is very irresponsible and has been to jail for dui (8 times) and still drinks and drives, among other things. I'm not trying to hurt him, I just want whats best for my child.

If you're married, his name usually automatically goes on the birth certificate. Otherwise, it will be blank. If you don't want him involved and you're not receiving public assistance, then he'd have to petition for paternity and the process for that may vary according to your jurisdiction.

If you receive public assistance, they are going to require you to seek a paternity finding. Because the state is supporting you, they are going to seek reimbursement via a paternity and child support order. There are, of course, ways around this, but there are a number of reasons why a paternity finding is in your and you child's best interests.

A definitive paternity finding allows your child a heritage, genetic history, child support rights, and inheritance rights (not only from the father, but also from his or her grandparents and other family). Don't confuse a paternity and child support finding with a custody finding.. They are completely separate and not codependent. A child is entitled to support from both parents, whether or not that noncustodial parent is deserving of or receives custodial or visitation rights.

I would encourage you to talk to a lawyer licensed in your jurisdiction to review your options with respect to the law of your jurisdiction.

First of all if you feel this way you should have picked the father of your child better then! Why should you decide if he has his name on the certificate? I am sure later on down the road the child would have wanted his father's name on it. Grow up and just put the father's name on it and hope he is around for the baby most fathers aren't there now days. No law that states you have to have him on there but you should for the baby.

Okay, first of all you don't 'fall pregnant'. You get pregnant by not using contraception. You can not change the parentage of a child after conception. He is the childs father. It is not just 'your' child. The child has rights as well - and those include knowing both parents.

You should not be irresponsible and selfish and actually do whats best for the child - give him two parents through adoption.

If you don't put it on the birth certificate, make sure you have it somewhere so as to prove who the father is, if and when something happens to you. No matter how bad we are, males or females, the child only sees a mummy or a daddy and loves us, as such. Only you know what is best for your child. Good Luck.
