We the believers of Jesus Christ; are the watchman of the body of Christ's church ( individuals, not a building), it is our responsibilities, to be mindful of how deceiving the enemy can be and watch for his attacks on us and other believers. Pray; without ceasing and watch over each other and love thy neighbor as thy self. Jesus tells us He is the Shepard and we are His flock; right! Then if we are His flock; we have to stay together; in Him and watch out for others and if they stray, we as watchman, need to reach out and do what ever we can within our Godly power, to help bring them back. The watchman are those that are prayer warriors, strong in faith , very spiritual, and has the love of God in them. Being a watchman over God's body of Christ; is a big responsibility, due to; we all have a tendency to stray; but it takes a watchman to have spiritual discernment to see what is happening, sometimes before it happens; to protect, serve, and take care of what belongs to God, to see that there is no harm that may become of the sheep. Like a wolf in in sheep's clothing, to come to kill, steal and destroy; watching the motives of others is also a part of the watchman's duties.

They are supposed to be the Pastors & Elders and if anyone has the gift of Prophecy they could also be a "watchman" of the church because God could give them a message that He wants a local congregation to hear.

When the "watchman" are asleep at the gate then the church gets infiltrated by people who make a mere profession of Christianity but who are not true Christians.

Matthew 13:24 He put another parable before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, 25 but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. 26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. 27 And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, 'Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?' 28 He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' So the servants said to him, 'Then do you want us to go and gather them?' 29 But he said, 'No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.'"

...37 He answered, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed is the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, 42 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

Classically, those who operate in the office of a Prophet are the watchmen of the church who hear and bring direction from God. Though the Paster and elders do have a responsibility to nurture and watch over the flock. I believe that quite often, the Pastor and or elders assume the role of Prophet at the local level,if there is no one in the assembly who holds the sovereinly given office of Prophet.

God has equipped every church with the people it needs. The watchmen are those , who have the gift of decernment, watching for the wrong spirits to enter the church and with that can cause harm to the body of Christ. The Pastor doesn't see it all.

Well since the word "church" comes from a Greek word that means a community of people I think it's the responsibility of every part of that community to be the watchmen.

All who are Gods ppl should be watchmen in the church, watching to be sure the church is ran as God directs us to do and also to watch and be sure that no error is allowed to enter in the doors to Gods church. Its HIS church, not ours.
But, as we know God gives us all different gifts at different times, and there are those that GOd will tell them that they are appointed to be specific watchman of the church. And , WHen HE gives you this gift, you KNOW it, and you will be forever watching and praying to be sure it stays a church that preaches only the pure word of God and that all that is taught and takes places lines up with the full will of God. If something runs contrary to the word of GOd, it is false and it need not continue. WE must speak to our pastor, assoc pastors, and the leaders of the church when we see error coming in, and if they wont hear it and correct the problem, then we are to go to another church. We arent to be divisive, but straight up with the truths of God And, it isnt just to watch what is taught, but Gods churches are to operate not only in full truth, but taught in love, with ppl there acting like Christians. Gods churches should be the most loving, friendly places ever, and when they arent, they arent His church, and the leaders should be told. IF they wont correct it, we leave the church, and find one that will, or we start our own. God tells us to stay on guard and protect His churches. They arent OURS , they are HIS, and we are to do this HIS way, not our own.
Great question, anxious to see the answers, as todays teachings so often tell us we arent allowed to question the leaders of any church. I say EVER HEARS OF JONESTOWN??? I dont think so. God says to check out all things according to the word of God, not just all things except from church leaders. Today it is currently popular to be taught that we are now to give our loyalty to the church and not the HOly SPirit. LUDICROUS. SO much error is coming in and we need the true watchman to keep their eyes and ears open. WE must pray for supernatural spiritual eyesight from the Lord to truly see and know all truths and know just what to do when things are wrong. God will bless us when we stay in fellowship with Him, and continue to obey all He tells us to do.
REmember its Gods church....
