These questions are difficult to answer...I think that the SITUATION in itselfis difficult to figure out, let alone having someone over the computer tell you about it. There's no real tell-tale signs. Some may apply, some not. In that respect, telling you anything that "May be" would be like leading you to believe something that's not true...

I think that you just need to find a moment when he's alone, and talk to him. Say "Hi" and ask him if he wanted to hang somewhere sometime. I know this can be difficult, or awkward, but believe me, it's not as hard as you'd think. Just get out and do it when the opprotunity presents itself.
