good policy to contact someone before adding them to your contacts? I have always done this, but took no offense that others added me to their list. I have had some of the pictures disappear from the avatars of my contacts. I realize this happens when they are in the process of changing their avatar, but I have had some "blanks" up for the past few weeks. Given the trolling that has been hurting all of us, with unfair violations notices, and suspended accounts, would it be asking for too much to email the person you are interested in "connecting" with, before you hit "add to contacts?" Maybe it is a generational thing, as I am older, but I was taught to knock, and wait for the door to be opened. Before it became Open Season hunting ground on this site, I considered it a compliment when someone added me to their contacts. Now when I find a notice from an account user that has been a member for a few days or weeks that I am not familiar with I have to wonder.

I think many of us are in agreement that there should be a safegaurd against people adding you to there contact list without you first agreeing to the connection. Dze, you do make a point about the "regulars" but I will say that the group to which you refer is the very first to offer help and encouragement to not only each other, but to newcomers, as well.
The bottom line is the regulars keep the number of "hits" per day up, and Yahoo is able to relate the number to the companies that advertise here. My first question I posted here was in regard to horse breeding. Silly me, I thought I might get a somewhat professional answer. As soon as the answers started rolling in, I realized that for the most part, they were ill informed. I finally had a hit from a breeder, but before that I was told "If something happens to your mare, you will never forgive yourself, just buy another horse." This is not a crisis line, and I again come to the defense of the regulars that were suspended.

I got suspended on Level 6 with 16,000+ points last week as well. Someone at Yahoo must have been in a pissy mood and didn't like I offended some poor simpleton with the truth about Global Warming mythos. They suspended me. I have appealed. Would like my original account back. Yahoo the new Pravda. Hope Microsoft buries them.

Your suggestion is good manners and has much to recommend it. But it doesn't actually address the real issue, that someone can gain access to our Q&As without our permission. We need more flexibility, like the ability to open Q&A to just the people WE make contacts, or reciprocal contacts.
I always check the profiles of people who add me and in the last weeks, I've really wondered why on a few. I've kept the notices for two and the third I just blocked immediately.
I don't like the compromises the current system forces us to make.

Evening all.... :) Have to ask... I really don't understand this trolling business... I usually don't even look at my contacts/fans until someone asks for prayers for someone and I check my lists to see if they are on there so I can send an e-mail...or if someone I like adds me, lol..
.anyway, have seen a couple of names added recently that I just don't remember even reading a question or answer by...and their accts are often new (1st level)... decided it was one of my contacts that faded away and got new accts... or, friends of one of my contacts whom added me that way :)
How do you know if they are legit or not?
Plus, just curious, if a person does have their acct closed here, do you need to get a new e-mail addy as well...or....just a new screen name here?
Lol guess I could have asked this of those whom have faded and come back, but keep forgetting, lol
Have a great night all :)

A wise thing to do! Knowing who first by asking his page URL is a polite and discreet way to know in what this person is having her kick. For my part if a person doesn't show her face, I consider her to be a false ID and it is prudent to think this way.
As for those creepy teens that play God by sending false reporting in the idea to get one evicted from a site, they are just sorry people with little lives but, there is no remedies yet for that.

Whew, so far so good. I had to check just now to see if I had any "blanks". I really wish would could get a handle on all these "trolls". I don't know if I will allow anymore contacts on my account.
Question for you...Is the first answer to your question, possibly a troll? What is with the hat comment?

you do have a point. for a while it seemed like someone was following me around just to give me thumbs downs.
i joke about the thumbs down fairy a lot, but sometimes it can be annoying. i recently had a question deleted. i had already chosen best answer and everything. i didn't even know they could do that.
if i want to be added from now on i'll e-mail first (if that's possible. some people have their e-mail blocked.)

my personal opinion is that people are being targeted and its easy to see whos being targeted ... i love alot of the "group" of people they seem to be going for but i also see why .. not that i agree with it i think its nazi behavior, but they are targeting those that are making it a chat room and being buddy buddy talking to each other and chumming it up on the board ... organizing raids and being silly having fun and deviating from the question and answer format ... i personally think it should be ok but i kinda also see where they are coming from ... the "in" group of regulars that are friends are 'running' the board and new people coming in have no clue whats going on and get offended ... but as far as adding contacts ... it doesnt make a hill of beans difference ... the regulars are well known and easy to spot ...

I seriously think that doesn't have anything to do with it, Yahoo has some real biased control freaks, one bad crampy day and blam they go nuts on the delete button.
I just recently had a question deleted by yahoo not anyone here and it was a question similar to one asked here quite frequently.
It's not the people here, it's Yahoo.

Gestapo or the Tsarist secret police, the Okhrana. You will know you are next when you hear the hob-nailed boots on the stairway at 3AM, and the Black Maria parked outside.
Live in fear. They could take YOU away next.

I've had to uncheck the 'allow other Answers users to be my fan' button because of certain people targeting me and having me deleted. They add themselves, which makes one's profile visible, and then report the hell out of their target. Petty, pathetic losers. Anyhow, to answer your question, I suppose that'd be a nice courtesy.
