Either go to your local animal shelter and adopt one there... or check your newspaper classifieds for ads declaring: KITTENS, FREE to a good home.

If you go to the Humane Society, they will make you fill out all kinds of paperwork and charge a hefty adoption fee.

If you go to your city dog pound, you will still have to pay an adoption fee, but it's not so much paperwork, and the fee is not usually as much as the humane society's.

Your best bet, if you want good kitties for not much money, is to get them from ads in the paper.

One thing to keep in mind, though! : DO NOT RELY ON MICE AS THE MAIN PART OF YOUR KITTENS' DIET.

If they spend a lot of time outside, they will naturally begin playing with the mice and one or two of the kitties might even eat them. But, YOU must provide them with daily fresh cat food and daily water, regardless. If you want your kitties to be healthy enough to stalk and kill mice, then you MUST provide them with food (dry cat food), water, and healthcare. Do not take on kittens if you will not be able to feed them, yourself.

**EDIT**

DO NOT CONTACT THE PERSON BELOW ME!!! DO NOT GET KITTENS FROM PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET!!! I am sure there are people in your community who have free kittens. MEETING PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET IS ASKING FOR SERIOUS TROUBLE.

Ok, I know cats are much more disposable then dogs, but I can't believe no one is saying you should not get a kitten if all you want it for is a mouse catcher. What if it does not catch mice? Not every cat will you know. Having volunteered at Humane Societies, I can tell you that if you tell them the reason you want a kitten is to catch your mice, they will not adopt one to you.
Why don't you just buy some mouse traps.

Look in the newspaper or any small free local advertising papers that land in your mail. There are usually free kitten ads in those.
