I'm thinking of buying one. Do they have any common issues? How many miles per gallon? Would you say its realiable?

Being a truck based SUV, the mileage isn't that great. My 97 gets about 21 or 22 on interstate at 70-80, but not that much worse around town gong slower. The first thing to look for is the engine...don't buy one older that about 95, and be sure to get the 3.4 liter v-6 from 95 to 2002. Either engine is OK from 2003 up. The second is this: if you don't NEED 4WD, don't buy one with it! Not because it isn't a good system, but because in many cases it has been beaten to death, and 4WD is expensive to repair and maintain. If you need it, then just have the system checked thoroughly by a knowledgable technician..I recommend a dealer. On the pre 2002 models, make sure the timing belt doesn't have over 90K miles on it, or try to have it changed in the price.

Good luck on finding a good one....I love mine!

I have a Highlander and very dependable the for runner gets a little less gas milesage than the highlander. Maybe 24 mpg if you are lucky on the highway

If its a Toyota, there is no question of reliability. They are outstanding vehicles. I recently purchased a Scion xB, the engine is quieter then my parents V6 saturn and much more smooth.
