Then get on route 15 south to LA.

this depends on your need for speed.every specific route has its advantages but the 95 to 10 is the longest. 80 is BORING . 70 is fast and pretty but has a lot of climbing in colorado dead ends on 15 which takes you to la directly
50 winds and twists and gives a great view of america. old 66 from chicago is a cool tho desolate road in places. e to w i like 40. it is scenic, fast, and direct. 20 and 30 dead end into 10 in texas thsat is a road not worth being on between san antonio and phoenix except if you like desert heat and nothing. that is the road you better have satellite radio on.
I 35 out of minnesota is a prety good road for north south.
taking us 2 or 6 across the top is pretty but slow. 25 and 15 are fast moving in the summer and scenic but desolate in areas.
i would come down the great lakes thru erie to 80, put up with slohio get to 35 to 70 to 15,.
if you want to visit tourist areas... national parks....
mapquest just sucks. as a truck driver i hate it,
if you take 80, evanston exit 3, 5? has the best fireworks prices but don't get caught with them. but they are profitable in so cal.

im assuming your driving, otherwise i dont see a need for this question. personally, i would stay north (cuz its cooler) and take I-80 to sacramento (?) and then head south.
