Toyota Camery 1996 4-cylinder

I barrowed the machine from Auto Zone. It reads: "cylinder 2 misfire detected".

After checking the cylinder #2, there is some white on the bottom of that cylinder and none on the other 3. Does this mean I need to replace spark plugs or the cylinder? And what is the price difference? Thanks :)

I suspect from your question you have a small misunderstanding. First, all the other people are basically correct. But you cannot see the bottom of the engine cylinder without major engine disassembly, and they are never white down there! You are probably looking at the bottom of the spark plug tube, where the plug is located. That is not the cylinder that the code refers to, but the numbers (cyl 1,2, etc) coincide correctly. A very strong possibility for white in the bottom of the spark plug tube is water that has gotten in and then evaporated. Water will definitely cause a misfire. I would recommend replacing the plugs for sure, and if there has been a lot of misfiring the wires could have been damaged. Look at the wires closely; if they are original, they will have the manufacture date printed right on them. If they are more than about 5 years old, or are not Toyota wires, I would replace them, too. Replacing the plugs and wires is just a tune-up; replacing cylinders means a major engine repair. Start with the tune-up.

a mis fire could be a bad plug, a bad plug wire, or a problem farther back in the ignition . More than likely, it's a bad plug wire. Swap that plug wire with another one and see if you get a misfire reading at the other cylinder.

in the experience that your spark plug, coil, wires, distributor cap and rotor are sturdy , then you quite could in simple terms remember to've gas going into the cylinder, if it is physically powerful then it would alright be a compression problem or a foul valve whether it quite is a foul valve interior the cylinder head, it ought to be burnt letting compression to slip by skill of if there's a intense pitched knock that appears like a tick tick tick then the valve would possibly not be establishing .... there is one greater danger are you burning oil ? you have a broken ring on the piston thereby not waiting to construct up sufficient compression wish this permits

This means cylinder #2 is not working...it could be plugs or wires, also a bad injector will not contribute enough fuel to color the plug and it will show a very lean condition.....a Compression test to assure it is not a engine mechanical problem would help also....good luck
