Patley Bridge, North Yorkshire, England.
A charming town, perfect for your little shop. Small and peaceful, but near enough to Harrogate that you can go to a larger town (with a train station) if you want/need to.
If you don't mind going further north, the tourist town of Haworth, is wonderful. Set in the hills with steep streets and loads of charming shops and B&B's.
If you prefer the east coast and don't mind the cold, consider Robin Hood's Bay, near the border of Scotland. It's the tiniest of the three.

Buy a Rand McNally road atlas and look in the back where it lists all of the towns in each state, along with the population.
Find a town which is small but not light years away from a big city, and of the approximate size you want, then do a Google search for the town on the internet.
Pick out the places you want to visit and then have fun traveling.
I live in a gorgeous Mayberry RFD hick town, but I won't tell where it is because we local yokels don't want a bunch of Texans or Californians moving here.

check out the villages of the Cotswolds. They are quaint, old, beautiful, interesting, have enough tourist trade to keep any shop going. We just spent several days in the area and can't wait to go back. We were ready to move to any one of the ones we visited. Broadway, Bourton-on-the-Water, Winchcombe, Stow-on-the-Wold, Painswick.... there are many more. Google Cotswolds villages and check them out. Oh, in a couple of the villages, we met folks from the US who had moved there and loved it! Good luck to you

well i think you would like Midway UTAH, very small with lots of country charm, with city conveniance 40 minutes away, the main street is being planned to keep the country charm, as for the hole in the wall shop, i think once being in Midway you wouldent want to have a hole in the wall shop and would shoot for something nice, SWISS DAYS is just around the corner on the 30th and is reaaly neat check it out
