Zardoz, I really feel for you. When we're in that place, it's so hard to believe that there is a way out. All I can do is tell you that there really, truly, IS a way out and that there IS a real you, a lovable, wonderful you (who may also be somewhat screwed up and less than perfect, in other words human).
Medication might be helpful in the short term (I don't know, there's not enough to go on in what you've said, but sometimes a short course of medication helps people to settle into therapy). What can make real long-term change is psychotherapy. It's not an easy ride, it's not done TO you - you have to actively participate and be willing to go to some difficult places in yourself - but if you stick it out and you are seeing someone properly trained, qualified and registered, you will never regret it.
The labels (depression, generalized anxiety, social anxiety) are just attempts to describe. They don't say anything much about what is going on individually in you. This is your story, to be unravelled with the therapist. Good luck - I hope very much that you can get the treatment you need and in a couple of years life will look very different indeed.

You have to give it a try if you want to experience life with some semi-normal times. What you have right now is insanity.
I have schizophrenia, major depression and anxiety attacks. I take my meds every day and my illness is in remission for now. I know there's no cure and some day maybe it won't work for me but I feel fortunate that I went through the trouble of receiving treatment and medication.
Believe me, there is a real you. Good luck!

Of course there's a real you, and you're worth looking for...doctors and meds can help, but the hardest work has to be done by you. And you know what? We're all screwed up, it just depends on how you manage your particular quirks...
And that "monster" in the mirror is on the inside, not on the outside. Learn why it's in there, and you'll have taken the first step in relegating it to the back of your mind, where all our monsters lurk...

You can always make lemonade out of the bad stuff.
Abraham Lincoln had all those problems and had to fight a civil war too. He also had malaria, and his wife was wacko. One of his kids died in the Whitehouse. But he held on.
Stay away from the meds. Doctors are far to quick to just stick patients on those things and scoot them out of the office.

You'll be in much, MUCH better shape with therapy and meds. In fact, some really good therapy could mean you can discontinue meds. Really, it's worth it.

Medication does help. You need God to assist you. You are not screwed, you need love and guidance.
