I have sent him numerous articles on how bad it is.Yes Purina one is not the worst you can feed your dog. But why not buy better food? Exspecially once you know that there are better foods out there.

I use Wellness. My info is clear. Dogs eat meat. AHHH processed meat is bad for me. So why would it be good for a dog?. Corn maybe good for your a horse and cow. But not for a dog.

I am concerned because, just got done baby sitting his Fox terrier for the last 4 Months. I had him eating good food, which helped me finally get him to lose weight and stop his chronic shedding problem. I sent him home with good food.

Thank you for all your answser. But the obvious is that he doesn't care like me. It's far easier to buy a 50lb of dog food and just leave a it out in a dish for him. Why substute his diet with other foods like vegitables and fresh meat?

Some people are too ignorant to even care to educate themselves. It's so sad.

There are HUGE differences in kibble, especially if you compare Purina, Hills or Iams/Eukanuba to foods like Orijen, Innova, and Timberwolf Organics. But of course, raw and home cooked diets are the best.

Maybe send them this article: http://www.iheartpaws.com/articles/35/1/Dog-Food--Decoding-Fact-from-Fiction-by-Laura-Presley/Page1.html

Or at least encourage them to add some fresh foods into their dogs diet. Low quality foods are so full of fillers and stool hardeners- the dog could be sick and you'd never even know it!!

It never gets old how stupid people are on Yahoo answers. To answer the question. I will say that I agree with the askers last statement. Your friend just does not care, or just can't be bothered. You will find that people are the same way when it comes to their own food too. Just too lazy to prepare a good meal. Oh I am sorry you don't have time. Well if you don't have time for yourself. Then you should not get a dog because they require a lot of time. Wellness is really good food and certainly does not cost significantly more then Purina One. But the best would be to cook for your dog. There a lot good recipes on line for making your own dog food.

High quality dog foods are expensive. Some people cannot afford to pay twice as much for dog food. As far as brands go Purina One is not nearly as bad as a lot of other things out there. Grocery store brands, Alpo etc are a lot worse.

All dog foods (including wellness, evo, natural balance etc) have processed meat. How else do they get in into that form? Let your friend make his own decisions about his dog. Maybe he will see the difference himself and change his mind over time.

Its really up to your friend. I personally check on http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com

A better food has less fillers which means you feed less and clean up less poop - all good I think.

As far as vets recommendations - they are jaded by the dog food companies - they get kick-backs on food they sell and the large companies provide them with free puppy kits to give customers that come with free food - customers like this - so vets like the companies.

With all the pet food recalls (good foods don't have wheat gluten) and the other bad stuff in the mass produced foods - its not worth the chance for me anyway.

Purina is not the best dog food brand out there, but it is not horrible. If he has been feeding her dogs Purina for years, and has had good results, and they like it, I don't see a need for him to change their food. You gave him information, you've done your part. Now it's time to look at the bright side....At least he's not feeding Old Roy!!

IMHO all dog food from a "bag" is crap. Some dogs are just better equipped to handle it.
Happy for them!

Perhaps this is the best that he can afford? There are other foods that are worse, as you say, and htere are other foods that are better.

A lot of places like PetSmart or PetCo offer the buy ten bags get one free deal. That means that you can buy better food and it will be cheaper if you enroll in this program. Another thing to mention - when feeding good food, you feed them less of it, which also offsets the cost because you are using less food.

And - less food means less poo!

If it's so important to you, then buy the food for your friend. Otherwise, leave him alone. As a pet owner, it's up to him to decide what he wants to feed his dog, regardless of what you tell him.

Funny i have always fed and continue to feed Purina and is even what my vet suggest and when I have my pups checked by the vet I am given Puina Puppy care kits to give to the new owner given to me by my vet.
