then why can't a single one of us choose to live without sin?

According to the Bible we are all sinners, no one is good. Only God is good.

We have a fallen nature. We can chose to commit sin A, sin B, sin C, or all of them. But it is Christ who gives us total freedom of choosing to please God, or not. This is a much deeper topic than you may think.

It's not about choosing to sin or not. It's whether we accept the free gift of eternal lift from God. That's the free choice. You cannot choose whether to be a sinner or not, but choosing Christ to pay the price for your sins would be equivalent to living a perfect life because Jesus paid the price for all of your sins when he died on the cross so that you can have eternal life if you truly beleive that he is God. We are all sinners and that is why Christians will call God merciful to us.. We deserve hell, remember, God is very restricted in what he can do: he cannot lie, cheat, steal or do anything that is wrong, he cannot think wrong or do wrong. All he can be is truth and righteousness. A sinner cannot be in his presence, God is too holy for sin and will not partake of it, but Jesus Christ paved the way so that our sins are irrelivant if we place our Faith in God.

You can choose to live without sin. It take time and effort and prayer and study and a lot of self discipline...but it is possible. And until you get it right...Jesus is right there with the atonement giving you a nice clean slate to work with.

Romans 1:28- 32 (this is refering to man in his depraved condition.)

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind to do those things which are not ptoper,
being filled with all unrighteousness, widkedness, greed, evil, full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice, they are fossips, slanderers haters of God, insolent arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful.
and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

if you have a Bible, take the time to read the whole book of Romans, this is only a small portion,
Romans explains in detail WHY we are of a depraved mind, and why we need Christ in our lives.
Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

it only took one man "adam" to bring sin into the world,
it only took one man to save us from sin, and forgive our sin,
Jesus Christ.

it is because of Adam and Eve. you know the original sin. you might say that you did not do it, and yes, you are right. but original sin is were all human are born. it is the state of deprivation of original holiness and justice. it is a sin CONTRACTED by us not committed. it is a state of birth and not a personal act. because of the original unity of all human beings, it is transmitted to the descendants of Adam not by imitation but by propagation, this transmission remains a mystery which we cannot fully understand.

Not true. We can be good people but it's just not possible for us to live sin free/perfect.

Because "sin" is a relative word that was defined by priests who were afraid of losing their power if they didn't control the masses through fear and coercion.

I think you are confusing our being tempted to sin and actually doing it. After all are you at this time committing murder or adultery? Sure we may be tempted in our minds so long as we live in this corruptable flesh, but it is only sin when we give into it. Our free will is our choice in which spirit we listeth to obey.

There are those in the Bible who were called good:

Acts 9: 36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

When Paul speaks of none doing good he was speaking historically, under the Law of Moses. The Jews diligently performed the works under the Law of Moses but they were dead works, empty rituals done grudgingly and without faith. Paul speaks many times of doing good works... and if we do them they indeed are good. Empty rituals done in unbelief are indeed filthy rags, good works that are done with real intent striving to emulate Jesus are good indeed. Of course it is by grace we are saved, but unto whom is that grace given? The disobedient? Those who profess God with their lips but their hearts are far from Him? I think not. Grace is conditional and only given to those who keep God's commandments.

Jesus plainly stated:

Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Some Evangelicals commonly teach it is impossible to do good works. This is a patently false doctrine. Good works are not only possible but are even commanded.

Free will is logical impossible if an all-powerful God exists.

Free will is an illusion. It's a concept made necessary by our inability to fully understand causality.
