Actually the first "you" in the passage is in the plural in the original Greek. Satan desired to sift all of the apostles as wheat. Jesus prayed specifically for Peter because He knew he was about to deny Him three times.
Notice that He prayed, not that Peter would not deny him, because Jesus knew under the circumstances that was inevitable, and it would serve to teach Peter not to rely on his own strength to serve God. Jesus prayed rather "that thy faith fail not." That is because even when we fail God and don't do what is right, we are still reckoned righteous before Him, so long as our faith does not fail.
We can make a lot of mistakes and experience a lot of failure in our Christian life, bur so long as our faith remains, God has pledged that He will bring us through.

Well, Jesus knew Satan was going to try to sift Simon Peter like wheat. That happened when Peter betrayed Jesus. He was undone. But Jesus told Peter He would pray for Peter to keep the faith, even if Peter messed up.
Yes. We all mess up sometimes. If we confess our sin, He (Jesus) is faithful & just to forgive us our sin & cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The devil really pours the condemnation on when we do mess up. This is difficult in our faith. Pray to God for faith.

Because Peter was strong willed, He served Jesus with everything within him, Jesus seen what was ahead for Peter, and he knew how Peter would be self condemning. I think Basically We as Christians are just like Peter, And we do fall. I don't care who Say's they never sin, we are flesh and blood, But we can ask for forgiveness and be restored, And we use our own weaknesses to strengthen others. I think there is to many SUPER CHRISTIANS, when will we get real?

Jesus knew that Peter was impulsive, and that he had the tendency to speak before thinking. Peter also denied the Lord.
We are to pray for one another, just as Jesus prayed for Peter.

i love how jesus uses peter...
1.to teach peter personal perserverence and faithfulness.
2.to teach the followers that even a pillar can fall prey to the enemy.but also find forgivness.and overcome!
3.to show satan once again, that he will always fail against the lord.
4.to show ALL of us,that the enemy never rests, using ALL means available,at ALL times.
god bless!

Peter would be given the keys to the kingdom. He would charged with opening up the message to people of the nations at the time, where up until 3-1/2 years after Jesus death, it was open only to the Jews. It was Peter who delivered the message to the roman Cornelius and his household.

Because he knew that Peter was going to be tested by Satan and Peter was going to deny Jesus three times. This was a horrible thing and he knew that Peter would repent and feel really bad about it later. He was letting Peter know that Peter would overcome the betrayal and satan would not get him.

Peter was a loveable lunk full of strong emotions and an even stronger heart toward his God who had chosen him earlier to work with Jesus in one of biggest undertakings in history.Jesus prayed for Peter because he also knew Peter's heart ,personality and the assignment later for a stenghtened servant of his father.

Jesus said and did many things that are not recorded in the bible, so we do not know that Jesus only prayed especially for Peter, but we do know that prayer was placed in the bible. The bible teaches us that all scripture is profitable "for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:..", but it does not say we are to repeat prayer. The bible teaches that the holy spirit knows what we need before we ask. A prayer is between that individual and God, unless it is being prayed for a group. I would suggest strengthening your walk with God, and you will abound in prayer.

Jesus prayed for Peter that he would not lose faith after denying Him. It is a lesson for us. We fall, but we should always get up and press on.
