Alright guys and girls. I know a lot of people debate this as much as we debate Ford vs Dodge, but I wanted to ask just to see what I come up with. I have shot many Glocks over the past three years and I now own 2 XDs. (9mm ported and .45 Tactical). I prefer XDs because of the added grip safety, looks, functions, and they are just as reliable as Glocks, in my opinion. They also fit in my hand better. What's your opinion?
I am looking for folks who have shot both guns (doesn't matter what caliber, but you may mention it), own either/or, or both. And just a quick reason why you chose what you chose.
Hey its an easy two points for those who want to play along. Best answer gets the 10 points.
Oh and Dodge all the way....LOL

Walther P99QA .40 caliber. Got it before Walther started working with S&W so I have one directly from Germany.

Currently, I own a Glock 19 and a Springfield XD 45 Service Model. I've shot 9mm , . 40 S&W, and .45 ACP for both the Glocks and the XDs.
I prefer Glocks, with the exception of the .45ACP, in which I prefer the Springfield XD. The reason I like the XD is due to the grip. The Glock .45 ACP pistols' (Glock 36 excepted) grip does not fit comfortably in my hand so I got the XD instead. Aside from that, I would rather own a Glock.
Out of the XDs (shot one in each caliber), I've had three misfires, two failures to feed w/ JHP and one with FMJ. One failure to feed with my pistol that I own (Federal 230gr Hydra Shoks), the other two were w/ rentals (Federal 230gr FMJ). I've shot approx 400 rds with my XD-45. I've owned it for about a month and don't regret the purchase at all.
However, with the Gocks, I've never had a misfire, didn't matter if it was a rental or one of mine, never had a misfire. They are very reliable and easy to maintain. My next purchase will probably be a Glock in .40 S&W or 357 SIG.
But you know what, I'd be happy with either in any caliber, both are great pistols.

I went to gander mtn. not owning either of the pistols.I was looking to buy my first semi -auto pistol, as only owning revolvers since I was a boy,and swearing by them.
A month earlier my wife had purchased a ruger p-89, and I had tried it out. So of coarse this started a complete pissing contest who would own the most and best semi-auto pistol.
A gun safe full later, man I'd hate to be the guy to break in to our place.
Back to the subject, had a glock 21 and a springfield xd service model on the glass side by side on mats. The first thing I noticed was the weight difference between the two.The Xd was heavier, and I remember thinking this could mean a little less felt recoil. The grip safety along with the trigger safety added nothing but security to the single action pistol.
The decision maker was the amazing comfortable grip, and with a h/capacity mag. to go with it. In my opinion the xd is everything the glock is and more. Sorry all you glock heads out there.
I picked up the glock21 after holding the xd.45 and put It down after 10 seconds, and saved myself about $75$ on top of it.The grip on the Xd felt a lot smaller, not having huge hands.Oh yeah and this thing field strips like in 2 seconds!
In my opinion there both well made, but the xd is the clear winner!

Sounds like you've already decided. More power to you. Me? I prefer the Glock. It fits my hand better and is available in more calibers than most modern auto loading pistols. My personal favorite? The magnum class .10mm in a first generation Glock Model 20 w/night sights and high cap mags. With this I am ready for whatever may come along. For backup I also have the Glock Model 31 in .357 Sig also with night sights and high capacity magazines. Both of these are better stoppers than the .9mm or even the venerable .45 acp.
Good luck.

Both are good guns capable of getting the job done. In .45 I like the smaller grip size if the XD. If I wanted a grip safety I would go with the 1911. I understand the GLOCK pistol and accept responsibility using it-my choice.

I would not chose either. I prefer a 12 Gauge pump shotgun for several reasons:
1). I don't even have to load it...if you are trying to break in my door, whether you speak English, Spanish, Serbo-Croatian, German, or any other language, and even if you have never heard a pump-action 12 gauge shotgun chamber a round, you will know what it is when you here it....in is INTERNATIONAL in distinct sound. No "no speaka Englis" here.....More like, "wrong address, so sorry".
2). If I do fire it inside my house, I feel that 00 or 0 buck might do enough damage to your body without going through too many inside walls where my loved ones might be. Full Metal Jacket .45 is not so forgiving.
3). After I empty the load of 12 gauge into you, or should my gun be unloaded, it makes a great weapon to butt-stroke you to the bejesus with.
For target, I prefer a Ruger Blackhawk chambered in .30 carbine with an 8 inch barrel and 4x scope. Hard to find now adays, but worth the effort. Ruger built them right back then.
For knockdown on the silhouettes, I prefer a Colt Delta Elite 10mm, but you have to get used to the recoil and watch for severe stress fractures.
P.S. The 10 mm has always outperformed silhouettes at 25, 50 and 100, even knocks down heavy metal targets that laugh at 9 mm.

Why doesn't Glock do something about that weak 40 caliber platform they have. For God's sake, they need to support that caliber. They're too cheap to change anything from their 9mm platform. I would never buy a Glock 40 caliber, or any Glock for that matter.....XD all the way for me...it's a much better pistol...even before the XDm.

Personally I would take the Springfield XD any day over any Glock..........I've shot allmost every Glock that has been made and not one don't feel like your holding on to a 2x4.......And I don't like there"safety", if that's what you want to call it..........The Springfield XD is very ballanced, feels good in the hand, and shoots very well, imagine that a Springfield shooting well?......It's pretty much an improoved Glock, that fits your hand and most that I have seen and shot have been ported, so there isn't much of any recoil........The desision is yours, BUT I would also go with the XD........

Had a Glock hated it. The grip angle stunk and I couldn't hit anything with it. A Glock tear down is harder than the XD.
As far as I'm concerned, the XD shoots better.
Glock maybe a good pistol, but I never regretted selling the Glock. It's the only firearm that I've sold that I haven't regretted selling.

When they make an XD that can handle the 10mm Auto I'll think about getting one. For now I'm happy with my 3 Glocks.
If you are happy with your XDs that's fine with me. To each his own and may we all find what makes us happy.
I have a 1972 Mustang with a 4v 351C, and a 1969 Chrysler 300 convertible with a 440 TNT. Like them both, but the Mustang is my favorite...

XD by far!!! Love the two sided mag release and the loaded indicator. Also Glocks don't have a natural point of aim (grips are set to far of am angle) the XD does. I shot more than 15,000 rounds through my XD 9mm tactical and not one problem! not even a stove pipe! And there cheaper and it's made by an American company that thrives on performance and reliability.
