My cousin is 17 and her boyfriend is 18. They've been together for over a year and yes, they have sex. Both of their parents have known about the relationship all along (but not about how intimate they get). Now my cousin is worried that it's illegal since her bf turned 18. But i've heard that 17 is the age of consent, although I'm not sure. Can her parents really put the boyfriend in jail if they find out something?
They live in California.

Age of consent varies from state to state. In California, the age of consent is 18, therefore, your cousin's bf could be charged for statutory rape should anyone complain or should she become pregnant before she turns 18, however you should inform them of the laws and then leave the relationship alone. It is my belief that the more you nag and pry the more inclined they are to continue their current behavior simply to be defiant, which isn't necessarily in their best interests. They will come to a sensible conclusion on their own about what is best for them and the future of their relationship.

Age of consent in California is 18. It's doubtful the parents would be able to put him in jail, but if for some reason they really disliked him and found out before she turns 18, they could possibly try to bring him to court.
What you've got to remember is that kids are having sex much younger than 17 with folks over 18 without the law getting involved. It doesn't make it good or bad, but there aren't nearly as many people in jail as their would be if the consent laws were strictly enforced.

No matter how you look at it, without parental consent, its 18 all the way. Yes, they can put him in jail for having sex with a minor. The second he turned 18, no matter how long they have been dating, he is having sex with a minor. No way around it. Either stop till she turns 18 or tell the parents and hope for the best. But its an adult sleeping with a child based on age, nothing else.

sure they are in a position to. A minor on the age of (varies in keeping with state) could have intercourse with yet another minor yet no longer with a individual over 18. yet whilst they havent had intercourse on account that he grew to become 18 then there is not any longer something the mothers and fathers can do.

No,it is 18, but by the time the case reached court, the girl would probably be 18, so they generally don't enforce it.
In horrible rapes or other violent crimes against children, though, they will dog the criminal down as they very well should!

The legal age of consent is 17. You are correct. At least I believe so. I know that it is in the state of New York. Cali I'm not positive of.
