Coca Cola was origonally a homemade beverage made with extracts from cola beans and cocaine, hence the name, however, as time moved on cola beans became expensive and of course cocaine was not smiled upon by the Gov't so now both substances have been replaced with artificial flavorings, concocted who knows how, that taste similar to real cola. Same deal with pepsi except as far as I know it never contained cocaine, only cola.

Coca-Cola tastes of the kola nut. It was originally made as a health elixir with extracts from coca leaves (more commonly made into cocaine nowadays) and the kola nut. It was also originally green. As time went on, it was found that this elixir was quite palatable, so things were added and taken out. They added caramel color, artificial flavor, etc., and took out the kola and coca extracts. Coca-Kola would have looked odd, so for the sake of alliteration, it became Coca-Cola.

End of storytime. :)
