I am 16 in high school now, and I have had a lot of problems the last year or so. I am not on any medicine now, but I have been doing better, but I am worried now that school is starting whats going to happen. I usually only talk to my close friends when I'm not at school, and I can't stand most the kids there. I have to deal with the football jocks, and all the weird *** people who just come to school to fight. I get soo sick of school after it starts and by the end of the year I am going nuts because of all the people I want to just snap on. Anyone have any advice for this school year? I just don't want to end up like last year wanting to kill every kid that talked to me.

Medication really helps get things under control. I don't understand how you could possibly make it without treatment and medication. With that, you will be able to cope with all the weirdos throughout the whole year. Good Luck!

I am bipolar, undiagnosed then misdiagnosed for a long time. My bipolar is a lot worse than it ever needed to get.

If you are bipolar, you need to be on medication. As much as the meds can suck, they are better than the episodes. If you think you don't need meds because you are fine now, get real about it. Depression and hypo/mania will happen again and again. And, the thing is, it's a progressive disease. Untreated, it only gets worse. So, stick with your pdoc and find the medication that works best without bad side effects. The search can take a while, but it is worth it.

As for school... it will be better if you are on the right medication. The jocks and creeps and jerks end up nobodies after HS. Be friends with others and ignore the rest. That's how most of us get thru school.

This isn't a lecture. It is reality. Sorry that you have to grow up so fast and be responsible in a way most people don't.

Well hopefully it doesnt get that bad! I kind of know where your coming from. I dont have bipolar but have been depressed on and off. School also sucks and so do the football idiots. Uh maybe joining groups that will help to keep you active. Im also worried about starting school again too. I dont really know what to tell you but I guess that theres people in the same position as you and that you just got to make the best of what yah got. Your almost out of high school anyways so try not to worry about it to much. Maybe pick up a hobby like guitar or piano?

Go back on the meds and talk to a councilor immediately. Not a good way to start the school. If you can't cope with things people should be aware of this. Don't feel bad or weird about this. Lots of people can't cope with difficult situations. I'm one of them and I take meds for it. Good luck, talk it out.

You need your medicine. I have a friend who is Bipolar and she is so much different when she takes her medication. Do not worry about the jocks and other losers. They will fall by the wayside in the long run.

Good luck.

Are you seeing a psychiatrist and taking medication.? There are great meds out there to help you with your mood swings.
You have an illness like any other - you would take cough meds for a cough wouldn't you? Ongoing supportive counseling would benefit you greatly and nobody needs to know if you don't want them to. You are courageous for asking for help here.

If you are just trying to survive, i'd say to do your own thing, speak to your friends and try to ignore everyone...But then you aren't really living. You know if you need medication or not, and if you start to feel like you need it, then get it.

I know how you feel and I spent my 4 yrs depressed, with my 2 friends miserable. But you need to have fun, and it's ok to feel something. But if you find yourself overreacting, stop, breathe and ask yourself "why do I feel like this, why am I angry" That helps to ground you again. At least it helps me. Good luck

I would suggest getting help, and I don't mean pills. I believe a lot of people that are put on pills for mental disorders, are given pills because the doctors don't want to have to spend the time fixing your problems any other way... so they just give you a prescription and your done. Depending on what bi-polar class you have, you might be able to get this fixed without medical attention. You can possibly be helped to where you won't even need medications ever again. Talk to a counselor at school, or at a private office, and tell them your thoughts when you are angry, and why you are angry. It is possible you don't even have bi polar and that you are just diagnosed that due to your anger, when your anger could be from childhood experiences, possibly experiences you don't even remember, but has somehow affected you to be this way. When someone is trying to talk to you, and you just REALLY don't want to talk, don't get mad, just say "well it was nice talking to you, I have to go now"... Think about the situation before you respond to it, with a THOUGHT or reaction. Think to yourself "is this something I should dwell over and get mad about.?" If your mom is bugging you to clean your room, and it just makes you mad because you look at it as her nagging, look at both viewpoints. Look at hers. Try to understand why she is asking you to do this. She's not nagging, she is trying to teach you ways to better yourself so your house is nice when you have your own someday. Don't just always be dead set on your thoughts and what you believe, take the time to try and understand the thoughts of others, and why they do the things they do. The people that go to school just to fight, maybe they were bullied a lot growing up, or they are beaten at home daily, or verbally abused constantly. Show this people some love, strike up a conversation or just simply say "hey, i like your shoes".. you won't believe the simple things you can say to cheer someone up for the rest of the day. Don't let your negative thoughts control you. People do things for a reason. Maybe the person that goes to school everyday just to start a fight has bipolar disorder as well. You having bi polar doesn't make you weird or strange, a lot of people have it. Think before you react. I would suggest seeing a doctor before school starts to help you until you get the psychological counseling you need to be able to get passed this disorder for the rest of your life. You don't want this thing to control you, get help... have a nice day, and relax.

with the stress of school work and the obvious fact that people get on your nerves, maybe you should see your doc and talk about meds. cut this off at the pass so you don't get to the point of frustration.
