I am about to puchase some laminate flooring and found a plce that packages pricing from $4.99 - $5.99 per square foot. But when I look online for the materials, it seems really cheap (<$2 sq ft) .

I am paying abuot $4017 total for 650 SQ FT of laminate materials and installation including underlayment and taking out the old carpet. Could I get thsi cheaper or is this a fair price?

Could you do this yourself? You would save a bunch of money. The new flooring that just interlocks and is a floating floor is not that hard to do. Pull up the old carpet yourself, and put it out for the garbage man. Even if you have to do it over several weeks, they'll wind up taking it all sooner or later.

See what flooring you can get to cover the 650 sqft and what it would cost you. Take a cruise on the money you saved. good luck.

That's not too bad, although Mohawk has some lines for as cheap as $4.50 at the low end. Be sure to ask the salesman if that's the best offer he can give you, which probably isn't. All flooring salesmen can sell it for less than the price he offers you.

If you have never laid any flooring down, then pay for the professional installation, that way any warranties that you get can be enacted upon. Companies won't take care of your warranties if you do it yourself

But beware, lower priced products tend to be of lower quality and have lower warranties. You get what you pay for, so good luck and keep looking a bit longer.

If you buy it online, plus tax, shipping, etc., then hire an EXPERIENCED and competent installer, you might be looking at about the same price in the long run. Hop on the phone to a few EXPERIENCED flooring installers and find out what they charge ~ by the foot, or by the hour, and do they demolition your existing space, and prep the area themselves?

If you DIY, don't forget tools and other materials that you will need. Make the comparison.
