As hurricane Dean approaches the Gulf Coast, I am reminded that both Pat Robertson and Fred Phelps claimed that hurricane Katrina was an act of "Divine Retribution."

Has anybody ever explained exactly or approcimately why God was mad at Biloxi, Missisippi?

You could be right Flower. God has never much worried about collateral damage. But you'd think an omnipotent and omniscent being could come up with an excuse less lame than--"Biloxi was just in the wromg place at the wrong time."

Don't pray for me Michael. I live in Chicago. Save your prayers for the next big blizzard. I've heard God plans to take out a six county area because of my asking this question.

I dunno Minnie. "Show us your titties" corrupt? I haven't heard anything about a powerful plastic bead lobby. And I've never heard that God was into Feminism.

If God punishes sinful people with natural disasters then perhaps that's what he's doing with the 100+ year drought in Alabama. Remember when radical anti-gay activists in Alabama were chortling about their anti-gay marriage initiative win recently? They bragged about their 80% to 20% victory. Maybe God did not view legislating homophobia as a victory?

Hum. I don't know what he has against Biloxi but New Orleans/LA is acknowledged by our own government officials as the more "corrupt" state of the union. It's got all the goods - gambling, prostitution, murder, show-us-your-boobies, greed, voodoo. I was there one year at Halloween. Yuk! The dirtiest city I have ever seen. Just a thought.

Hey Steve,
Those guys would give anyone a bad name.
I don't understand why God is getting the bum rap once again.God does not rule the earth, satan does. Why Patty and Fredo can't stop their madness is beyond me. It is nofuntobeamental.

Biloxi? Are you on the Elvis trip this week? Oh yea How was your night out?

Hello, madpole,

I wouldn't expect any logical explanations from your target audience here. Hurricanes are acts of Mother Nature and She doesn't do these things either to punish or teach lessons or make others feel superior.

Mother Nature just does Her thing, whether it is birth, life or death, and She has all 3 in Her Hands.

For what it's worth, I know the winds will blow hard, but it will be nothing like your amazing song.

Ciao,
Cam

hmm..I do not know if it was retribution or not.
But I do know that New Orleans hosts one of the foulest depravities to be legal in the USA and they were hit hardest....
America is getting more and more evil, turning away from the God we claimed gave us the inalienable rights we enjoy, and upon whom we based this country and its laws, but divine retribution?

Maybe the first chapter or so of Amos would help us to understand whether God is a God who judges nations based upon the actions of its people.....
(ironically i preached these verses a week before Katrina)

I honestly do NOT see such things as acts of God...... As I said in another place, the quote, *an act of God * is not quit right....... the Bible clearly says who is the god of this world, and that is satan...... I do NOT know why God made him as such, but anyway........ By MY understanding of the Word, Bible that is, satan can do what he wants with the weather, environment, etc., but God does keep him under control as to NOT destroy the world, again, I do NOT have the answer for that either....... I do NOT claim to know all the answers, but anyway, satan does it all to manipulate the thinking of the people, to take our eyes off God, and to make it seem as if it all were the work of God, when in fact it is NOT...... and it is working in a lot of cases......... make of it what you wish... go in peace............ God bless

Neither one of these men knew what was up with God!
They like to play God,or God's righthand man is all.
God does not just jump up & kill ppl!But He does warn allof us about living right & being responsible for ourselves & family & each other.
That is why He commands us to be sober & watchful, because none of us knows what will happen or when, especially on the comming back of Jesus.
Those of us who have been happy to be Christians & serve Him,have nothing to worry about. But those out there who live like heathens & disbelief in a higher power, well, what does it matter how you die? What do you have to live for anyway?
Athiests cannot argue the fact that when most all of America worshipped God & followed His rules, there was less stress in the world, better judgements made by our govornment & less crime & perversion. This is fact! Not fiction.

No, but He was apparently angry with New Orleans. Perhaps Biloxi was just a bit too close.
