Call the owners of the bar and complain! And if they don't bring the price down to $6 then the answer is:
You need to drink at home.

Any place that charges $7 for a beer is also serving wine for $8 or $12/glass, and mixed drinks in that same range. The clientele they expect to sit in their bar--no doubt, beautiful, and filled with beautiful people--are not merely passing along the cost of the ingredients (in this case, the beer). It's the chance to have the beer THERE: served to you by the professional behind the bar, serving in a certain glass, in an ambience that you obviously enjoy by being there. You buy into that...and you buy into the cost. The tip is not a means of making such an expensive outing less expensive (by a buck?--come on). It's like the tax. It's like the cost of the drink. Just part of the experience. And it's the HUMAN part, no less. Be generous. Enjoy the entire experience, and think of it as part of your fulfilled desire to be there, drink beer, be seen, see others, etc.

Since the bartender and the wait staff makes less than minimum wage, you are expected to tip. They need to make a decent living. I pay upwards to $15 a glass of wine when I know I can buy the bottle at a wine store for less but I tip. Your bar tab is always going to be the most expensive part of your evening. Live with it and tip or be rude and not get the service.

then drink at home. You will also save money on the cab too. If you are going to these swanky places to drink then expect to fork out the bucks. Dive bars are cheaper . Tip the bartender.

If you're planning on returing to the bar during the evening, it's a good idea to tip the barman. If not, don't tip him and never go to that bar again!!!

Because it is a restaurant and that is how they make a profit. If you don't want to spend that much, buy a six pack and stay at home.

Buy a cheaper drink. The bartender didn't set the prices so its not fair to him if you don't tip him.

$7? I wouldn't tip him. I also wouldn't expect him to rush over to me the next time I went up to the bar.
