Proverbs 23:19-35 begins with advice to "not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags." Verses 29-35 from the same chapter has often been referred to as "God's message to the alcoholic." I believe this illustrates two different descriptions of the use of alcohol, one being the overindulgence of either wine or food, and the other vividly describing the sad results of obvious addiction, as in "When will I wake up so I can find another drink?" If I take the admonishment not to drink too much as to mean not to drink at all, then it would also seem to mean not to eat at all. On the other hand, there are serious consequences for eating or consuming alcohol in excess. I personally choose not to drink alcohol, though my church does not specifically prohibit drinking. Whatever is not done in faith is sin for me.

First you would have to determine if it's a sin or not to drink. I personally think it's a sin to drink because I've seen so much hate come from it. Things of God do not cause hate. So if you determine it's a sin to drink, then it's a temptation to you if you feel the urge to do it. If you don't feel the urge to do it, then it's not a temptation. If you have the urge to do it, and you do it, then that is a temptation that you chose to do, which is a sin. :)

It is not a sin but to much of it can bring up your temptations that are in you mind and if your too weak and give in then it is your own self that sinned the alcohol is just an excuse to do what you want.

Alcohol is a spirit. If you have a problem with it,it is a temptation. Give in to the temptation, it becomes a sin.

It is gambling.

It is certainly a temptation. It might also be sinful in some circumstances (like if you have a drinking problem).

But it is always a gamble!!!

God asked some people not to drink alcohol, in the bible (sort of a fast I think); but he did not ask everyone, so it's up to you.

I have alcoholic friends, a couple are still letting demon run ruin their life.

Most of my alcoholic friends are "recovered" Alcoholics Annonymous members.

They are great guys, who appreciate me NOT drinking.

I go to a church where we use "new wine" (unfermented grape juice) in communion ceremonies, so AA members are not tempted by the very taste of a sip of alcoholic wine.

As a result, we are attracting former alcoholic men, who like fellowship with non drinkers. If you are single, a guy like that just might be your soul mate.

Maybe you'll chase away your soul mate by drinking. That's just one of the gambles you make!

Maybe you'll meet your soul mate and he drinks; BUT you could offend him with the amount of your drinking ... or even your "alcohol breath".

If you're lucky, your soul mate loves to drink alcohol as much as you. If he doesn't drink, either because he never did, or because he used to drink TOO much, maybe alcohol will make you will miss out on "the one".

Maybe you won't drink enough that you "blow it" with the best guy you ever had, or maybe not.

Maybe he won't get you so drunk that you can't resist his advances, or maybe not.

Maybe he won't drop something in your drink so you can't resist a whole "train" of his friends, or maybe not.

Maybe, heaven forbid, you won't get drunk and "accidentally" kill anyone (like your loved one), or yourself; but then maybe you will...then have to answer for it (and live with it).

To top it off, you are gambling just driving down the street (or even walking at the cross walk for that matter) because that car speeding toward you might be sudden death or crippling injury in the form of a drunk driver dozing off!

It is certainly a temptation. It might also be sinful; but it is always a gamble!!!

Cheers!!!

It's not a temptation. Paul said it was good for the stomach.

Only moderate alcohol use is allowed by the Bible. Over indulgence is a sin.

The temptation of alcohol and the sinful deceit of white man is what got our land taken away. So I'd say it goes hand and hand.

Alcohol itself is merely a substance. Alcoholism is a disease. I doubt the use of alcohol is a sin; why would Jesus have performed the miracle at Cana and changed water into wine if drinking it were a sin? Also, read Timothy where it says drinking wine is good.
I'm an atheist, by the way, but I believe in knowing about something before I decide to accept or reject it.

At the wedding at Canaa, Jesus turned 80 GALLONS of water into wine. After 3 days of alcoholic frenzy. And his wine was supposed to be better than all that consumed by the drunks in the previous 3 days. So what do you think - alcohol is bad and Jesus is the biggest sinner of all time?
