The existence of God is something that cannot be proven or otherwise by your brain. So, it is a matter of faith and if your "heart" tells you to believe in God, your mind can kinda guide you to the right direction. For example, don't believe in inanimate objects, various animals etc.
In conclusion, both have a role to play

Actually, my mind believed in God before my heart did. Now they're in complete agreement, though.

A "heart" is not capable of belief. Anything else, your mind is pretty much responsible for.
