Yes.

I also believe that many of the people who believe in global warming are actually hurting the environment by distracting efforts and financing away from known environmental problems. It seems like there are more people concerned about saving their own butts than in saving the environment.

When they start talking about space shields, dispersing things into the atmosphere or dumping it into the oceans to try to alter climate, with really no idea if such schemes could really work, it makes me worry that we could do some serious damage to the Earth.

Surely you can. Working to save the environment can be more than global warming though I think it is real and is something that needs to be reversed. However, I understand that right now environmentalism is a fad and that many who are talking about it continue to be phony about it. I mean pickup an Outside magazine, they will do stories about mean old industry and every third page is an ad for giant SUVs and elitist world travel. If you are committed to clean water and air, you know the two Federal laws passed a quarter century ago and never complied with, then you can be an environmentalist. I suspect your statement is like those of fundamentalist Bible thumpers who deny much about the environmental problems and then say they are environmentalists because God controls everything. So while think you could be into the ecology without recognizing global warming is occurring I don't know what logic you would be using.

Sure. Global warming is to environmentalism as UFO's are to astronomy.

You can even be a Capitalist and be an environmentalist.

I believe Capitalism is better for the environment. Where there's more Capitalism, the environment is better. Compare the environment of Russia, India, China and Bangladesh to the environment of France, Canada, Sweden, and the USA.

As we speak animal habitats all over the world are being decimated to make way for agricultural products to make fuel out of. All in the name becoming carbon neutral, and the pathetic thing is there is absolutely no known way to make and utilize ethanol without creating a much larger carbon foot print. The manufacturing process used to make batteries used in hybrid vehicles is far more damaging to the environment than buying a normal fuel efficient gasoline engine. There are other so called green initiatives that are environmentally damaging, so trying to emit less CO2 actually causes a bigger environmental impact.

So, to answer your question not jumping on a ship of scared fools, historically makes much more sense, for you personally as well as environmentally.

Yeah sure. You can love nature and help preserve it without taking a stand on political/scientific issues. I believe more in Creation instead of Evolution which I would say is a scientific principal, but it doesn't stop me from recycling. Believe whatever you want as long as you do your part to leave this world greener than you found it.

Environmentalist: one concerned about environmental quality especially of the human environment with respect to the control of pollution.

Nothing in there about global warming. Although global warming should definetly be something that an environmentalist should be concerned with.

Sure, environmentalism is primarily an attitude about the relationship between human society and the rest of the world. Scientific ignorance doesn't seem to get in the way of anyone expressing their opinions. Your proposed solutions aren't as likely to be effective when you ignore reality, though.

Count me in - I believe that we have to do what we can to take care of the environment - don't pollute the water, plant trees wherever we can, things like that - but the whole "global warming" hysteria is just crap. It's cyclical, it's happened before and it'll happen again.

Of course, everyone has their theories subject to analysis by who ever thinks they are best qualified coming from their own environmental background.
