If your SBC internet works on another computer, just PLUG it in. Then go to the Network section of your control panel, and configure a Network connection. For SBC, this is a so-called DSL service, which uses the PPoPE. Yes, you will need your SBC username and password.

No special software is needed... it's built-in. In fact; use the built-in stuff.

If you want to use your new computer AND old computer, then get a ROUTER. Use your old computer to configure and enable the router. If your new laptop has Wireless, then program that part too. I recommend a LinkSys router.

Eventually, the world will catch up to Windows Vista. It IS the future, so stay ahead of the crowd. If your computer only has 512MB of RAM, consider UPGRADING, so you can enjoy the high speed.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

I agree with the other answerer. DON'T LOAD THAT CRAP FROM SBC, or any other provider for that matter. If you just plug in your Ethernet connection you should have service. All that other stuff does is hijack your browser.

Let me just point this out to anybody reading this post. When I build a computer how do you think I load all the updates from Microsoft. Do you think I and other builders have a secret internet connection... NO.

Most computers built prob in the last several years are installed internet ready. It's plug it in and whoosh off you go.

You don't need the SBC CD at all -- its just a bunch of advertismements. Use the Vista setup program for installing your Internet.
