You do not need a degree to get hired at the airlines. Some majors will require it but not all. However, it does make you more attractive to the airline if you have a degree. It doesn't matter what it is in.

Get a degree in what interests you.
You will do just fine.

The airlines (regional or major) do NOT care what subject you major in. They simply use the degree as a tool to help the HR dept weed out and prioritize pilot candidate resumes.

Also, having a degree implies the pilot has developed study skills and critical thinking ability which are two qualities an airline pilot should have.

A college degree is not required for a pilot's license. However, if you are considering a career with the airlines or as a corporate pilot a college degree can give you a competitive edge and is even required by most airlines. There are several aviation career guidance sites but I don't recall them at the moment.

Nope. The common misconception is that you need a college degree to fly a plane and a high school diploma to fix one. The reverse is more of a general rule now.

Most major airlines will require a degree in something, but most pilot jobs don't require one. It's a good idea to have one to fall back on if aviation turns out not to be your thing or another 9/11 happens. But make it a real four-year degree, not these two year 'aviation diplomas' that will not mean anything outside of aviation.

No. I had my glider pilots license at 14, my private pilots license at 16, and my commercial pilots license at 18 1/2... all without having finished HIGH SCHOOL !!

Sadly, I didn't finish college right off... but I joined the Navy, and spent 12 years as flight crew / crew-chief in helicopters. I finished a degree in history, a masters in education / IT.

GOOD LUCK !!

Where did you get THAT idea. I've known a lot of pilots that didn't finish high school... but then I've known a lot who have advanced degrees, too.

I have a Master's Degree in Engineering but the only thing I have used from that is an ability in math.

To fly a plane in general, no. But if you want to become a fighter pilot or an airlines pilot, then yes, you need a degree.

I think that if you want to be a commercial pilot you will need a proper degree. If you want to just fly a single engine deal, you're alright without any degree

Yes many commercial airline pilots have a degree of arrogance! Most with distinction too!
