the song you are downloading from Limewire is a virus or not? some good tips please.

its illegal? is it? i have viruscan but i just recently downloaded a virus all better now

Well when you're downloading anything from a Peer to Peer network like Limewire, you never have any guarantees about what it's going to be. One thing you should get in the habit of doing is loading your music by using your music players - File->Open feature, rather than double clicking on it. If its not a valid music file when you use File->Open you will usually get an error and know to delete it. WHen you double click on a song, it just launches the file to use whatever program it requires (viruses/spyware love this!) Of course you still have to be careful because some viruses can make use of flaws in music software, but they're harder to craft. Just be cautious, but as long as youre only downloading music, vides and pictures, its a lot less risky than programs .

UPDATE: Its only illegal if you download illegal things (copyrighted, restricted material)

Install an antivirus program just in case you accidentally download a virus.
To spot a song with a virus, look at the most common file size. If you see 10 songs with the same title at 3.14MB, and then one at 3.16MB, that one has something extra in it. It's usually just a link to a WAREZ site, but sometimes it can be a virus. Better to be safe than sorry. Also, obviously any song in the 0-5KB range is not really a song. Never download them.

Of course, you're only downloading freely distributed songs such as those available on garageband.com, right? ;-)

You don't really know anything when you are downloading illegally. It is the risk that you are taking when you are attempting to steal song. Do it the legit way, and buy the cd or pay for song services

i have limewire and i have never gotten a virus so i dont know bout you
