I notice your picture is that of the pagan sun worship are you religious? Yes it does get a bit tiring but i must admit i contribute a lot to the arguements here. It is a never ending source of amazement to me.
Being an athiest does not mean that you subscribe to Darwins Theories, although many athiests do. Athiesm is not a religion, we have no churchs no gods, the only thing we have in common is a disbelief in a higher power. You are correct however that Evolutionist/Secular Humanists could definitely be considered a Religion as it takes faith to believe in something that is not completely proven. I have no faith at all.
Ah ok, i figured you were either Christian or Pagan by the symbol. That symbol of the sun surrounding the cross is an ancient one. I was just wondering. Good day to you.

Oh hell yeah! I used to live in a place known as "the buckle of the Bible Belt." I don't know about all that, but there were some almost scary-religious people there.
Some people take the Bible as "the direct word of God." Some people never get ambitious about anything, because they think nothing on Earth matters. Some people are always trying to build a case for the existence of God, or whatever they're trying to prove or disprove.
I have found it impossible to explain to some people that faith is a belief in something for which we have no proof. If God was as literally explainable and quantifiable as, say, a tree, then we wouldn't need hundreds of differently-worded religions. And we wouldn't need people arguing over the tiniest symantics.
But people believe in God, by whatever name and however they choose to visualize it. I call God "it" because I have no idea if it's a guy, a gal, a mailbox, or whatever. And there's nothing wrong with believing in something. Some days, I wish I were more faithful.
The problem I see is when people's insecurities cause them to try to control others. Nobody can control anyone except themselves. Even if you put a weapon to someone's head and say, "Vow allegiance to my god or die," you're just giving them two undesireable choices.
I know religions do a lot to allay people's fears, of dying, or being persecuted, or whatever their particular fears happen to be. But to try to inflict their beliefs, based on their own fears, on another person is the embodiment of evil.
So, yes.

Yes. When that happens, I stop cruising this section of Yahoo Answers.
By the way, just to let you know: somebody was using your avatar to ask a confusing and potentially divisive question asserting that "some people don't honor" Mary, without specifying what is meant by "honor" and/or what to "honor" entails (readers may follow my avatar for answered questions).
As if there wasn't enough bickering over questions of dogma rather than ethical conduct just among those who know who Mary is/was! Frightful!

Yes, the bickering of religions tugs at my heart and mind all the time. Even my own family belittles people of different persuasions and beliefs.
I do not try to belittle them, I try to engage in a meaningful exchange of data. As peers in this great big world, I tell them where I stand and they tell me where they stand, and we're both able to accept that the opinions and beliefs are different. However, some people are closed minded, unable to respect a difference of opinion or belief.

in one word yes.
in many words.........i am particularly bothered by the battle between catholicism and protestants. the argument is that catholicism has been around longer (the current pope went to great lengths to say that catholicism is the only true religion). the reality is that it doesn't matter how long what religion has been around, i believe that there is too much focus on the actual religion than what the religion is teaching it's followers.
however, i do think that it is healthy that people engage in religious discussion because it brings what is important to the forefront; God.

Religion is the root of all evil.... those of us not explore our natural spirituality or anything else natural and free are often imposed upon by those who are religious.... it's a long standing problem.. whether it's in our civil laws, our freedoms to behave as we choose, they never seem to live and let live without creating barriers to every form of freedom... that's why I would love to see yahoo seperate religion and spirituality into two catagories and let us without religion have a peaceful forum

tiring and frusterating. Especially when the bickering includes people who are both ignorant and arrogant. This often happens on both sides yet they all think it only happens on the other side. It was amusing at first but now I'm down right sick of it. It's just sad.

Oh, yes!
That's why I took a long break from here (I used to be here under a different name) and why I don't spend a whole lot of hours here, now.
I dont' answer a lot of questions because I'm not here to bicker, or convert, or evangelize. Just to explain, in my own words, what I believe and why.
And hopefully to also to live those things here as I try to in my life.

Yes, of course, but everyone's got a right to their own beliefs, so it is a part of life. Nonetheless, it is still frustrating to hear a bunch of angry folks all demanding that they are correct and you are not. I tend to be leeriest of religions whose members are the most militant and mouthy, as they are generally less holy, and more full of holes! :)
