I cut myself and I have a hard time deciding if I want to stop or keep going. It seems worthless to try and I just need help. Why is cutting so bad anyways. I don't get it.

Please stop cutting. You asked "why is it so bad". Ask Yourself," why is it good". Go to a counselor and tell him/her that this is what you have done. This person will talk with you about any compulsions or problems that you have and ultimately help you.
Cutting is self mutilation, causing scars, infections. And one compulsion can lead to another. Please get help.

What is this??? a "Fad'???? Why did you start doing it? Did you hear about others doing it? In the olden days we just beat our heads against the wall...or had tantrums. Does this come from the days when drs. used to "let blood" (cut people to get the germs out...they thought)??? Or is this a type of mini-suicide attempt? Blood is Life !! I have an idea...if you want to bleed..go to the Blood Mobile. They'll be happy to take your blood...and for a good cause. This "cutting" is not a good thing. It's a bad thing. Don't do it !! Find something else to cut on...or go chop wood !! This is your body!! You have to live in it the rest of your life. Do you drive an old beat up car?? Would you go outside and "key" your car to feel better? Well that would be better than doing it to your body. Your body is precious!! It's worth more than billions of $$$$

well the problem with any compulsive self harming is that the odds are that it will get out of control...meaning it will work less and less to solve/control/divert your stress and anxiety so you have to do it more to get the same result and this can get pretty scary and lead to other self destructive behavior. It can also waste years of your life never resolving your feelings and only diverting them.

I think most of us question quiting or going on but the fact that your reaching out says that at least part of you knows its not good for you in the long run. There are better ways to deal with your feelings that get better results...I promise....medication, therapy, etc.

I'm involved with a program called DBT that is designed to treat self harming and it is really working for me. (and some medication helps too) Its all about learning to deal with your feelings difrently rather than trying to stop the feelings. Anyhow...heres a website. And know that your worth taking care of and protecting so find someone who can do that for you until you can do it for yourself. Love and peace.

First of all cutting is bad cuz you can kill yourself. Secondly, you are worth so much more than just to end your life. You will miss out on so much of life has to offer. You need to find a new way to get your worries and fears out other than cutting. You can try finding someone to talk to and if you can't talk to anyone you can try writing your feelings down or walking or sitting by a river or lake. I hope you stop cutting cuz its not worth it. Problems come and go but killing yourself is permenant.

life is an adventure, if you are too lazy to keep trying and can't enjoy the suprise of everyday go to the library or a bookstore and lose yourself in the books-search for anything to distract you and learn something-find an interesting idea outside your own head and research it-the power of ideas is worth your time-don't waste it on self obsessive destructiveness.
