myuncle died Boxing day, 2 weeks ago i got a letter to say i was in his will, i wonder if i have got to wait another 8 months before i get my cheque? This will give you some idea how long it takes!

Don't recall hearing of "prove" as a legal term .. I assume you mean 'granted probate' ?

Plainly it depends on who has been appointed executors (and how complex the estate is) ..
... needless to say (in my opinion) Solicitors have little incentive to progress any-ones Will with any degree of urgency, especially as the longer they take, the easier it is for them to justify their charges ...

As I recall, when my Dad died, he left everything to Mum and it still took the Solicitors 6 months ...
