Sometimes I read answers on here (from fundies, usually, although I'm not trying to lay blame on anyone in particular) where I honestly don't even see how the answer is relevant to the question. For instance, on The HypoPope's question, "Why was it okay to level Sodom and Gomorra?"

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ah6LojUhwyf7D1gK4sNNeAU8.Bd.?qid=20070818120001AAKDRwe

I read at least one reply that basically stated all the people there deserved to die because of the original sin. Are you serious? So, I guess that goes for New Orleans, too, and any other similar disaster?

That does not even show real effort at even trying to understand what HypoPope's question was about.

Sometimes I feel that some people are so determined to be blind that it is truly hopeless to even attempt to discuss anything in seriousness with them.

Anyone else ever feel this way??

Yes, I feel this way with my mother in law who is a christian. I have come to realize though that the source of her ignorance and arrogance is not from her beliefs...she just uses her beliefs to express her mental illness.

Linz, I sympathize. I've been having an ongoing "conversation" over e-mail with a fundie. There is simply no reaching them for logic has no place within their thought process.

The only answer is to continue talking sense to all those who WILL listen. There are many more like that than Yahoo Answers would seem to indicate.

Don't waste your time on the fundies if you're really trying to convert someone. I hate to say it but sometimes all you can do is ridicule the fundies so that, at least, others will see how ridiculous they are.

Linz,
I choose "not to cast the first stone" even when it is obvious that judgement (uncalled for) is being passed from one person to another. My thinking aligns with yours I have to admit; however, there is a bias that exists when one also casts doubt on an answer that seems "so ridiculous" that even the most hardened people would find difficult to promote. The example you provided in this question was a perfect one.

Best to you!

Did you consider the possibility that the answerer didn't understand the question? A lot of questions here are written in a language that vaguely resembles English but without any of the syntax and grammar rules that we all supposedly learned as children

This forum is often unquestioned soundbites, it seems.
But even taking that into consideration, looking at the link to the question, and some answers, it is almost unbearably sad that people, and many of them, walk the earth and visit this forum, who really think, or rather don't think, like that.
You are not alone in that despair.

I've given up completely as far as making any connections with the majority of Christians here. As far as I can tell, most of them are filled with bigotry, hatred, and evil and are not the sort of people I want anything to do with. I just post my response and move on. Life's too short to waste it trying to communicate with intolerant bigots.

In the nineties a certain part of the population cleaved to the phrase "Greed is Good." The saying of this early 21st century, when it comes to religion, are cleaving to "Ignorance is enough."

Yes, when someone can not understand God, it is hard to relate to them. I find it easier talking to Muslims (even though I hate their religion) than atheists, because at least they understand the concept of a righteous God. When people try to explain God as a human it doesn't work. Human rational doesn't work, because God hates sin and we are his creation. Cant the creator do whatever he pleases with his creation?

Yeah. I've been an activist for years, and sometimes I see hope, but often it's like "Will the world EVER be sane?"

Honestly, I'd be worried about myself if I wouldn't feel disconnected from them.
