I've notcied this happening when i see someone yawn and then i have the sudden urge to yawn as well. And vice versa, if someone sees me yawning they yawn too. Why does this happen? Is there a connection?

I have no idea why it happens, but I can start yawning when I see the word in print--such as now.

When in places there are people yawning I must instantly look the other way in the hopes I don't follow suit.

yawning cools your brain down when it is over worked. it is an evolutionary mechanism so if you see someone else cooling their brain then your body tells you to do it so they don't get a natural advantage over you.
