If you believe he was wrong, please provide the scriptural basis for your opinion, since Khomeini provided plenty of scriptural justification in the fatwa.

Justmyinput: Rushdie was accused of blasphemy.

And from what we have seen here, you are in a minority opinion in your religion.

Yea, I think Khomeini went over the limit in calling for a fatwa against Rushdie, it's not like Rushdie could really affect Iran, but it is a different culture in Iran and people have to understand this.

There is no hierarchy in Islam. This guy has no right to speak in the WHOLE name of Islam (hah, do u think he can seriously and accurately represent 1.5 billion ppl). Hell, I've barely even heard, let alone acknowledge his "fatwas."

There is no Quranic basis behind his action so of course it's wrong. I haven't read Rushdie's writing & i dont intend to waste my time doing so; I think she is a coward and a low-life to blasphemize our holy religion. I certainly have my opinions about Christianity and how (for lack of better term) absurd there scriptures are...but I would not purposely attack or offend them.

The only time a person can be killed is if they not only spread mischeif about Islam but if they wage war against us and attack us. Otherwise their fate is with God. It is not our duty to punish, but I will send u this verse from the Quran:

"He forgives all sins, except disbelieving in God (blasphemy)".

Are you seriously asking whether or not it is wrong to execute a man for someting he wrote? Do you really need scripture to tell you that behaviour is ridiculous and unacceptable?

These are sad times indeed.....

Helena, you make me sick. It is exactly the sort of thing you are advocating that holds society back. The more that is written, no matter what the viewpoint, the more people can learn and judge for themselves. No issue should be taboo in literature. If anything becomes taboo then you limit yourself, your intellect and your society.

Are you all afraid of honest discourse about your religion? I suppose I would be too were I in the same house of cards.

Edit:

I didn't miss the point of your question. I am saying that scripture is simply not even needed to justify that Khomeini was wrong. Also, most of my response was actually directed at Helena and not yourself.

Bit of a devilish question that. You have very neatly got the Shiites and Sunnis going for one another in this forum. Enlightening isn't it?

If she's saying it in a save in mind that it fairly is a foul factor then she would not understand what she's speaking approximately. what's the crime of not paying taxes (extreme taxes and taxes on each thing in U.S.) right here in america? how many people whinge correct to the tax expenses right here in america? how many people whinge approximately what they're being taxed right here in america? united states oppress there very own people financially! detrimental people go through the main! what's the linked fee of Jizyah? that's the comparable fee as Zakah, it particularly is two.5% which ALL MUSLIMS could pay the crucial Zakah besides as Non-Muslims pay the Jizyah. merely like people who refuse to pay taxes in united states, there will be a criminal action. So who's the 2d type electorate? reason for Jizyah is imposed on enemies of Islam (people who raged conflict against the Ummah on the time of Prophet Muhammad salahu alahi wa'salim) and it is likewise imposed on the non Muslim gov't who oppressed there very own people. Many Non-Muslims welcomed the Islamic gov't and particularly pay Jizyah particularly stay in oppression. on the time Khalid Ibn Walid radi'Allah ahnhu imposed his enemies Jizyah on a SELF protection conflict against empires on the time. you additionally can study one perspective on the provided link. people could desire to study history and get some user-friendly experience. I have no answers only questions.
When Christians disagree it leads to strife and argument.
When Muslims disagree it leads to bloodshed.
If you people can't get along with yourselves how can you expect any other nation to have respect for you or your faith?
