"Vanity, vanity, all is vanity" -- Solomon in Ecclesiastes.

"There is nothing new under the sun." -- Solomon again.

"Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die." -- Solomon yet again.

Life is made to be enjoyed. But to grasp the true meaning of life requires restoring a right relationship with God. God gives our lives purpose.

Except that you have to be remembered. If you don't do anything with the short amount of time you have here, what's the point of living? Maybe we get reincarnated. But maybe we don't. Maybe we just have this short, less-that-a-century vacation into really living, and then we have to clean toilets or balance God's checkbook for eternity. How can you say, what's the point? The point is to make the most of life. That's like saying, "what's the point of doing anything fun while I'm in the Bahamas? I'll have to go home on Tuesday anyways." Working hard, earning money, feeling bad-those are all things that may or may not help us live this life. If having money and working hard is what you want to do on your vacation, do it. If you'd rather make a difference or experience everything you can, do that too.

Sure there is... But it sounds like right now you could use a hug.. (HUGS!) It may seem like sometimes it really isn't worth all the hard work! But when you get a chance to see a person you have effected in a positive way, that is when it is worth the heartache and tears. I would love an accolade for the achievements I have accomplished, but since I won't be getting any, I have to be confident in the fact that I have fought a good fight and have finished the race.

you have it all wrong.... the acceptance that some day we will die gives people motivation to enjoy the one life they have... We don't need to sell out our futures thinning that sitting around doing nothing to make this world better because some god does it... We take ownership of our lives and leave legacies of our existence... big or small working together as mortal humans gives us something to live for today, this is life and an appreciation of that goes a long way in getting us through it.

Well, someone still has to pay the electric bill....but I think it's more about putting things into eternal perspective, than about the things we normally worry about. The car getting a little dent isn't so important when you realize that God is waiting every day for you to make a decision that will affect you FOREVER....

We are supposed to do the Lord's work until he returns. That means continue business as usual and effort in making things a little better. "If a man will not work, then he shall not eat"... If we all fell into this mindset, our society would collapse. It's already starting.

If contributing to humanity during your short, special and "against the odds" existence is insufficient for you then I suggest you drop your self centred view.

Your whole question seems to centre around what the point is for you to do anything rather than what can you do to build for humanity and thus for your future offspring and everyone else.

Everything you have you owe to someone else.

That's life. You only get one chance. There is no afterlife, etc. Yes, don't waste time pining over the past, just make the best of the life you have.
