I went to this outdoor food restaurant today. It is in a dangerous neighborhood, and while waiting for my food, I noticed a group of guys throwing their trash on the ground and then moving to this enclosed area where it looked like they were setting up shop (selling drugs). I must've been staring pretty hard because one of the guys looked at me, threw his arms out and said "what you staring at, amigo?"
I didn't say anything, but I wanted to take his life. I'm not talking figuratively, I meant what I just said. I wanted to kill him. And the only thing stopping me from doing it was the law.
On the way home, I realized that I would kill him if I wouldn't get in trouble for it legally.
What is wrong with me? Is this some sort of mental disorder? I never really felt like this. Everyone I've talked to says it's related to my being a combat vet, but I don't think it has anything to do with it.

I think that it was a very strong reaction, stronger than was necessary. But I think that the fact that it worries you means that you haven't lost your morality.

So, that's a pretty strong reaction! There was reason to be angry, and anger is not an unhealthy thing. That you went to 'kill' instead of beat the crap out of does sound combat influenced. Sorry, you are not immune.
If you continue to think about the incident, or respond to another outrageous event with the same reaction, get some counselling. It's a sign of misplaced anger and you would be much better off getting to the root cause and dealing with it than being a tough macho guy who sees therapy as a sign of weakness. Besides, you have the rest of your life to live with yourself. Emotions like that are not easy, and you probably would feel much better in your skin without them.

They might be right, and they might be wrong about it being from being a combat vet, but it is not for them to say. The question is what was it about them that brought about the feelings? Their looks, what they were doing, or their attittude? The is the first step to figuring it all out. Plus the thing is too, you didn't do what you felt like doing, you controled you urge to kill for whatever the reason you may of had. That says alot about you. Take care.

You did see him as "the enemy" to that neighborhood
You experienced his disdain for you, and felt threatened.
This, I believe is not a mental disorder.
You experienced a DESIRE. The desire, itself is within the scale of human thought.
You also experienced RESTRAINT. The law worked in this case. It prevented you from acting upon the desire.
You were also able to recognize that you are in the US and
that this is not a combat zone. You recognized and used personal restraint in not escilating the incident. This is good.
I believe your experience is not that different from what other military and police officers experience from time to time.
Recognizing our inner feelings can be uncomfortable and embarassing to recognize how easily it would be to sin against another person.

I would have to agree with what "everyone" is saying. You seen guys breaking the law and not caring who saw them. THEN had to balls to rub it in your face by trying to call you out.
Anger can be dangerous, but it also healthy. If you feel yourself getting to close to the edge, call a help line, a good friend, or do something extremely active. Get some of the aggression out. Perhaps a gym.
Good luck to you.

Actually, it's more normal than NOT wanting to kill people. We are animals, after all, and even though we are capable of being civilized, it goes against our instincts. If you raise a child in a place where food is scarce, and people have to compete for it, that child will kill without hesitation. Such is nature. It's not insane. It's natural.

They would kill you first. People get killed over simple things like trash. They know that nobody will stop them making a mess and they don't care.
