Can you play a HD DVD on an upload convert DVD player?

I tried to play a HD DVD, the screen continuously reads :loading", but won't play.

HD DVDs play on HD DVD palyers only
Blu Ray Discs play om B-R players only
Standard DVDs play everywhere
