Mahi-mahi is in the Pacific, I think. It's wonderful cooked with a macadamia nut crusting, if you can find a recipe for that.
Good luck!

Your Mahi-mahi was so 'inexpensive' because it's on the 'don't eat' list because of the 'mercury' in it. You CAN eat it, but NO MORE than 'one serving' (the size of a pack of cards) per person per week ... and the Mahi-mahi is a 'Pacific fish' that grows mostly between Hawaiil and Japan. Serve it 'sauteed' in white wine with capers ... YUM! Have some 'saffron rice' and asparagus spears with it, and you will have a 'feast' for very little money ... the saffron may 'cost a lot' but it takes only about four 'strands' to color and flavor the rice for two, and 'asparagus' is particularly inexpensive this time of year. Mahi-mahi used to be an 'upper class fish' until it started getting so much mercury in it so most people won't buy it any more ... so you got it 'really cheap' ... so ENJOY it, but just be careful not to eat 'too much' in any one week.

Mahi-Mahi
Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Actinopterygii
Order: Perciformes
Family: Coryphaenidae
Genus: Coryphaena
Species: C. hippurus
Binomial name
Coryphaena hippurus
Linnaeus, 1758
The Mahi-mahi, Coryphaena hippurus, also known as dolphin, common dolphin-fish, dorado maverikos, or lampuki (in Maltese) are surface-dwelling ray-finned fish found in off-shore tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. They are one of only two members of the Coryphaenidae family, the other being the Pompano dolphinfish. The name "mahi-mahi" ("strong-strong" in Hawaiian), particularly used on restaurant menus, has been adopted in recent years to avoid confusing these fish with dolphins, which are mammals.

Mahi-mahi is DOLPHIN......but the FISH NOT THE MAMMAL.
The name itself "mahi-mahi' is Hawaiian BUT the FISH itself can be found in the Caribbean Sea, on the west coast of North and South America, and Southeast Asia as well as many other places worldwide.
It's delicious blackened.......or just broil it.

Hey Braah, It's Dolphin Fish and the name came from here in Hawaii:) It's a fish that thrives in warm tropical waters. It's a good fish, inexpensive and can be prepared in many different ways. Cook it the same way you would cook any firm white fish meat.
