Plan a small, loving ceremony; your fiance will surely understand. Money shouldn't be a factor unless one or both of you are pretty materialistic.

150 people is NOT a "small and intimate" wedding. That is a lot of guests. Im from PA, and I think a lot of wedding receptions cost $30-60 per person, for a nice wedding but nothing over the top. Buffets are not tacky, if they are kept clean and neat as people pass through. Ask the venue if they have staff specifically watching over and changing the serving utensils as necessary. Many guests prefer a buffet these days with picky eaters, vegetarians, and allergies. Sit down dinners are nice, but buffets are not considered tacky by most people. A budget of 2000 for the reception dinner wont get you far if you dont cut your guest list. Honestly, the reception and ceremony are what you should be working on before you even start thinking about the invitations, makeup, and dresses. Dont be one of those brides who comes on here in a panic because she hasnt budgeted enough for the reception and now has no options. If I had 2000, I would rent a party room at a nice local restaurant, treat 30 guests to a nice dinner, bring my own wedding cake, and skip the DJ dancing and centerpieces. You should get out there NOW and start looking at reception venues. I think you will be surprised at how much it will cost you.

A majority of a wedding budget is spent on the caterer, DJ, photographer and reception site. If you know anyone in the family that is a phtographer, florist, DJ, caterer etc, you may be able to cut costs by getting a great deal.

For our wedding we were able to save a lot of money with the help of family and friends. I also did a majority of the decorations myself.

The main thing is choosing where you want to be married. Once you have the church and or hall booked you can go from there. If you don't have enough money for a caterer, then have friends and family pitch in with some home made food. Or have a cocktail hour with appetizers only instead of a full dinner.

You can also opt for a buffet style instead of a full meal.

There are a lot of ways to cut your budget!! The important thing is the marriage! prepare for that and you will be all set!

Good luck!

My wedding was inexpensive. Justice of the Peace $126.00 with certified marriage certificate. Dress $60.00, wedding reception in our backyard about $1.000.00 with food , flowers from the supermarket. ($8.00 per bouquet rather than $40.00 from florist) rented items included tables, chairs, linens , silverware and china. That was for 60 guests. We bought the food and friends helped to "man" the grill. If you have an apartment a park will probably cost about $150.00 to $250.00 per day. So you can have a beautiful wedding for under $2,500.00. P.S. we bought steaks and the guests preferred the all beef hotdogs that we mainly bought for the kids. The next big party we had we skipped the steak & just served chicken and hotdogs with side dishes. So the food doesn't have to be fancy just plentiful and presented nicely. Think seasonal foods they are less expensive and usually fresher.

Hi I don't know if this will help or not. I work at a library and I saw this book I forgot the exact title but it was something like plan your wedding on ebay. The author wrote about people who bought wedding invitions, wedding dresses, and other stuff for weddings and they saved a great deal of money off of ebay.com. It was in the library section of 395. You can do a library search to check that out.

Get married at the justice of the peace and toss him a $20.00. Invest that $4000.00 in your furures not waste it on a wedding. Most weddings end in divorce anyway...

Weddings don't have to be huge extravagant affairs to be special, in fact I think it makes way more sense to do things on a small scale so you don't start out in debt. My husbands is from a large family, we had next to no money - our reception was a family affair, everybody brought food - kind of a pot luck - and we had a blast. The family enjoyed feeling like they contributed, and no one (and I mean me here) was stressed! Do your own flowers, make your own favors...lots of ways to keep the cost down. Good luck!

Since when is $4,000 a "verey [sic] little budget"?

My fiance and I are marrying here in Vegas and spending a total of $300 for license, minister donation, and chapel on the Strip.

I seriously think you need to rethink your priorities if you think 4k is a small amount of money. There is a hell of a lot you can do for that much and then some.

you might want to finish your question! but first you need to prioritize if you want to spend more money on flowers or your reception or a dress then set a budget. Do as much as you can yourself and buy as much stuff on sale as you can like your dress and decorations also if you know of anyone that has had a wedding recently see if you can borrow stuff from them or buy it at a reduced cost
