She is about four months old and I just got her spayed 3 days ago. All she has been doing is sleeping or just lying down awake, she only gets up to use her litter box and eat and drink water, then she goes right back to lying down. She has also been kneading on her blanky more than usual. It is also difficult for her to jump so she climbs instead. She has also been walking slow. I dont know if she is sad or in pain, the people at the humane society where she was spayed wouldn't give us pain meds (can I get over the counter pain meds?), and I dont know if this has anything to do with her problem, but she got internal stiches. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like she is just healing up, usually after surgery a cat will spend awhile not doing too much (of course there are exceptions to every rule, some younger cats go right back to being complete spazzes the next day). Usually the animal is given a shot of a pain killer that will last anywhere from 24-48 hours depending on what was given and the cats metabolism. Some cats just seem to take longer to heal up and get back to normal too, but 3 days is by no means a long time after a fairly major surgery. Since she is eating, drinking and using the litterbox I would assume she is just a little sore still and after a few more days will get more active. If after a week or more she is still acting like she hurts, call the vet.

Yes, they do give internal stitches for this, so that's not unusual.

She's just had major surgery, and three days of rest isn't unusual either. A pain med would have helped, but it's almost too late now. Unless the stitches line is an angry red and puffed up, she's on the way to healing.

Let her rest up and she should be ok. If she's still doing this at 6 days, then call the vet and ask him about it because that's going too long with no improvement.

She is probably just tired and sore and taking it easy while she heals. As long as she's eating, drinking, and using the box like normal, I wouldn't worry. I don't think they normally sell pain medication for home use, as it could be easy to give her an overdose.

It is possible for the spaying to alter the cat's personality a bit I think, but I bet she'll be OK in another couple of days. Generally cats become more sedentary after being fixed. They don't have the hormonal energy that drives an unaltered pet to breed breed breed!

In the meantime, be thankful that you don't have to worry about her ripping her stitches! My cat was back to her normal crazy self after a day or two, and for the next two weeks I was following her around all worried, trying to keep her from jumping and running and climbing, but she just never seemed to stop moving. Everything turned out OK though.

Take care of your baby, and Good Luck :)

She's probably just recovering- if the problem is still happening by tomorrow, call the humane society and they will either tell you that it's normal, or tell you to take your cat to the vet.

shes in pain..it like when you get surgery it hurts after a couple of days. cats tend to hide it when there in pain because, if they show that there injured they will become pray and not the predator any more. survival of the fittest so ..yea shes in pain so she will sleep. as long as shes eating and drinking there is no need to worry.

Just want to remind you that you can't use over the counter meds on cats, you could kill them.

The same thing happened to my cat. Just give her some time, she'll go back to normal soon.

give it a few days, she's still healing. after being spayed it takes a while and they just chill only getting up when necessary. she'll be fine. (^_^)
