All cats purr. Big cats purr louder than housecats. This is a sign of the cat's contentment or pleasure
I saw a show on Cheetahs in Namibia, and there was this lady who is trying to save Cheetahs from exitinction and she has a beautiful female adult Cheetah that she has raised from a kitten.
People come to see it and interact with it and the Cheetah loves this attention. When she brought it out and was walking with the Cheetah toward this group of kids that were waiting to see it, the Cheetah was purring loudly.
The reason we don't see captive big cats purring much is that they are somewhat stressed by being in cages. In the wild they purr when they eat or after they eat or when showing affection toward others in their pack.

I examine some weeks in the past that a cats purr additionally enables them in terms of wellbeing - if a cat has been run over, or is in any different case gravely sick, that's going to regularly purr, even whether it quite is in a brilliant variety of soreness. some scientists now think of that the the frequencies of the purr could have a competent result on healing, and may even velocity it up, at a similar time as increasing bone density! sensible issues, cats!

Yes they do. However, unlike domestic housecats, the big cats can only make the purring sound while exhaling. Domestic cats can purr while both inhaling and exhaling.
