Oh my goodness YES! Sometimes that is the best way to use up leftovers too. I remember the first time I did something like that was with carrots - just cooked enough to lose the hard crunch but still firm... threw in butter and Bernstein's Italian dressing... holy toledo it was incredibly good. Also took chicken breasts marinaded in lemon juice, garlic and pepper and a few other spices, topped them with bleu cheese and broiled them until the cheese was browned and a little bubbly... ohhhhhhh it was delightful. Experimentation in the kitchen is one of my favorite pastimes!!!

I always cook by the seat of my pants... Rarely ever do I use a recipe.
Cooking should be fun and you never know how something will turn out unless you experiment! I cook that way all the time and rarely do I have something turn out that I dislike, or my husband, or either of our families.
I love to use up left overs that way... see what's around... left over chicken for example, cut up a few veggies, throw in some pasta and a sauce of some sort, or create a soup!...
When I was in school I used to make something for lunch that was cooked white rice, pineapple and chopped up ham (dinner ham not deli meat)... mix it all together in a frying pan, put some of the pineapple juice in with it... and just fry it till it's all hot. I love rice and pineapple and just tried it one day cause it was left over and damn was it ever good!! I then started to do it a lot and bring it for lunch... the nice thing about that is it's good whether it's hot or cold, but nicer hot.... hehe

It's kind of fun to just see what is in your fridge and cupboad. Here is a recipe for leftover pot pie.
Leftover meat, chicken, or a can of tuna
1 can creamed soup, (mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of celery, your choice)
1/2 to 1 soup can milk or water (depending on how much other ingredients you have)
1 Tblsp. dry minced onion
1/8 tsp garlic
1/2 tsp. salt
pepper to taste
(if you use beef, I add a couple tsp. worschershire sauce)
1-2 cups leftover cooked veggies cubed
1/2 cup cooked rice (optional, use it if its in your fridge)
1 Cup cubed leftover potatoes, or 1-2 potatoes, microwaved, skins removed and cubed.
combine ingredients. Put in a 8-in square or round baking dish.
Top with a roll of refrigerated biscuits (pillsbury, etc.) After the pot pie has gotten hot and bubbly, about the last 10-15 min. Continue to cook until the tops of the biscuits are brown.
Bake at 350 Degrees about 30-35 min.

OMG YES I do this all the time. If i see a recipe i like and don't have all the ingredients i just pick whatever and put into its place. i once made meat loaf with honey graham crackers and cinnamon instead of saltine crackers and salt. it was great.
i made some chicken once out of rolling the chicken in cinnamon and honey and the recipe called for soy sauce and oregano. that was great as well and has now came one of my families favorites.
there are many things you can do in the kitchen if your not afraid of trying new things.

Just about every time I cook - recipes are a starting point to maybe give ideas for quantities and cooking times, but the real fun is putting together something new and exciting and having it work out (not all do, mind you).

I am completely random when it comes to making dinner. I may intend to do chicken and then have a steak of fish, but as a rule they turn out OK.
