I just reported you...and your imaginary God hasn't sent me to hell or struck me down. God doesn't exist. You'd think after 40,000 years the human race would get somewhere. BUT NOOOO-lets have 90+% of the population believe an ancient theory. The Greeks believed if it rained you angered the Gods. This isn't a common belief anymore. Why-cause we have a better explanation called science. I'm not saying evolution is the answer to everything but it's 1,000 times more likely than God. Ok, i'll admit that's an exageration-it's only 999 times more likely. People say bless you when you sneeze. Ya, i'm sure "God" gives a crap about your sneeze even if he were to exist. I will never embrace your "Lord and savior Jesus Christ". Christians pray for people and when it works go "OH LOOK PROOF" and conveniently forget to mention that 99% of the time it doesn't. If there was a God he wouldn't kill nearly the number of people that "he" does. He is in quotes because if there is a God it could be another race or female. This is more evidence that God is fake because that was also an ancient belief and they were racist and sexist cause for them you know: Wow-female, black, Asian, those people aren't even human. Instead of being happy for your God i would be appaled. There basically saying your my bi*ch/slave. I'm just keeping it real. Then Christians use the excuse, oh they/i did something wrong, so that's why the prayer didn't work. If this is true, than what makes you better than atheists. Also, a collection plate and paying money to "repent" for your sins makes it, oh yer gonna like this one, a BUSINESS. And don't tell me Capitalism is the reason. I don't know about the plate, but you've always been able to pay away your sins. Ya, that makes your values and morals real legitmate. Christians say they can use science to back up their religious beliefs, but i can use the Bible to prove mine. The bible says God creates man in his own image. I'm an atheist. Therefore God is an atheist. You've probably heard this, but it's never been sucessfully defended. Just because you are in the majority doesn't mean yer right. I urge you to see a movie that will come out soon called "Religulous" by Bill Maher. Ya, keep using your excuse that it is "biased" or that your the "true Americans". Oh and supressing others, ya that's the real Christian thing to do. But don't be bitter, now you have a story to tell your Christian friends (i guess i should have said that i assume you are Christian, so if you aren't you can disregard the exclusively Christian points, but most people are and they are the most stubborn of all) you got owned by a 15 year old atheist. That reminds me, use the excuse "he's too young to understand".

there are probably those that do, but that's very far from the norm.
the typical atheist does not believe such an 'event' will even take place, so it doesn't really work as a reason for not believing in something else. for example; it would be silly for me to say that the reason i don't believe in santa clause is because i want to avoid being good all year long.
i do not necessarily believe i'm always held accountable by others, but rather i hold myself accountable for my actions. every day, at every moment. my reasons for behaving and acting in a moral and ethical manner are not based on the promise of reward or the threat of punishment after i die.
i conduct myself the way that i do because i believe it to be the right thing to do. this is independent from my views on god.

Atheist dont want to acknowledge Gods' existence for different reasons. Some believe they have been failed by God, old poeple, children, the ignorant and innocence alike. Intellectualists believe if it cant be proven it doesnt exist. Others feel as though many of the biggest hypocrites take refuge in the temples of he that is unconditional forgiven of sins, ie. Catholics-pedophiles, Muslims-terroism, Christians-condemners, liars, suppressors etc. Many people who turn to religion, it is as a source of hope. Many people never know that there is a higher power until they have lost all hope and faith kicks in. Some atheist feel that religous people are fanatics and weak minded people who are too dumb to seek the truth through research and ambition. They need something to stand on when all else fails. They need a reason to forgive and feel forgiven. Some people feel that religon is a controlled institution inflicted upon the masses to justify the wealth and position of power of the dominant and elite. I myself, no better. I am a firm believer that there is an entity greater than myself of a positive nature that exist. I shall call my GOD. He who gave his only begotten son to erase the sins of sinners. I also believe that there are forces that govern our actions but do not interfere with our choices due to freedom to display the intent of heart and desires. Thus, what will be the outcome of character on the day of judgement. There is no coincidence that people in highly developed countries, third world countries, and remote islands alike have faith in a higher power that gives them strength, health, wisdom. There are many names for him, but what remains the same is that he exist. GOD truly does exist people! However, I believe that the Father, the son and the spirit are within us. They are all one. We all make of entities and limbs of the father. This is to say, when one of us have thoughts of evil, it affects the other unless your belief is stronger than theres. This is why others moods set off a chain effect. Those that are more in touch with their spiritual side through meditation have a great power. A weapon against enemies. Some have the power of phrophecy through dreams or visions, others through wisdom, or tongue, others has healers, etc....Anyway, there indeed is a GOD. Whether it is in the form as religons speak it is another question though.

If I thought I would be held accountable by God, I would believe in the existence of God. I would therefore be a theist, not an atheist. So clearly this isn't the reason for anyone to be an atheist - it leads to a contradiction.
I became an atheist principally by reading the bible and comparing it to the real world, other religious texts, and itself.

and what if what we think is ugly? i could easily say no matter what you do you will be held accountable for you actions by the three judges into hades. or because you dont die in battle but instead of old age you will be sent to Nifilheim, where Hel rules. a place not of fire but ice. or you could be face to face with some other god. one you do not know or one that no one has ever though existed. the question is, why is your religion right. why is what you say true but not the countless other people in history who have had other religions? because you have the bible? Hindus have their own religious text, so did the ancient egyptians and so do bhuddists. so why i ask?

Er no atheists don't believe in god because they do not feel that there is any proof of god or that there is any rational reason to believe in god. Stop trying to find some "hidden secret" as to why other people do things differently than you.
and BTW kathleen m- I could quite easily accuse you of never studying the Koran, the Tibetian Book of the Dead, the Egyptian Book of the Dead, the Wiccan Charge... you get the idea.

at first i thought you had a very good question then i continual to read and you answered your own question very well true nom matter who or what a person belive in or not belivein since GOD created the world and everything in it then we must give a answer to what we have done while here on earth becaused he GOD did not create this place for our home he created heaven as our home and because people want to be like the devil and rule what GOD has created we must stand in judgement to see if we are worthy to enter into our home thats in heaven if not ther another place waiting for them who have done like their father the devil and was disobedeint and go to the real hell

I hold myself accountable for what I do, and believe me, I am hard on myself. I take responsibility for my actions.
I used to be a christian. I realized that I didn't really believe. I was forcing myself. I let go and felt intellectually honest for the first time in my life. I see the universe as a natural place. I see no evidence of anything supernatural. I hope you don't think I am being ugly. I certainly do not mean to be.

I think my phrasing of your post is more to-the-point:
What say you, heathens!? What say you to my obviously judgmental and prejudiced post? Say you not anything "ugly" for I have the Lord on my side! Fear the end, oh heathens, for when it is my time to be judged I will stand before the Lord and the gates of Heaven will open for my believing soul whilst the rest of you heathens are cast into the fires of hell for eternity!
Lol, you crack me up.
I'm going to go continue being an atheist now.
