We were wondering why UK personalised number plates are so expensive - I mean to say why would someone want to pay in excess of £200K for a personalised plate?
I assume companies like www.premierplates.co.uk have some of the answers but I would be interested in knowing if there are people that have any thoughts on this.

Since posting this question there have been some number plates that have been sold at more then £400k and the owner of 'F1' is believed to be asking more than £10 million having turned down an offer of £6 million - www.premier-plates.co.uk

Well only 1 car in the whole of the uk can have its own plate !
You can't have 2 cars in the uk with the same plate.
A Plate with a name like Jason would cost well over £300.000 since no other car would be aloud that name .
If you want the best names then they cost more :) Same with if you want the Best car , You have to pay more same as anything

It's called supply and demand. if you are buying a personalised number plate and no one else wants or is likely to want it you will find it is quite cheap. If a great many people are likely to want that combination of numbers and letters it will be very expensive/

It falls into the bracket of "I've got it and you want it"
In this country it has made a lot of people rich just selling these plates. I like the idea of the US way. If nobody has it already the you can get it issued from DMV

A number is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
If someone is willing to pay £200k for a certain number, then that's what its worth.

number plates are one per car that is already owned, so if you have a plate number that someone may fancy you can sell it to the highest bidder.
