Does it anger you that people smoke knowing the health dangers?

Maybe I am too health conscious and it gets my goat seeing people smoking like it is a fashion statement.

Then they get upset when they are diagnosed with the C word!

What do you think of this?

It does anger me when people drink as well.

People who get blind drunk and damage their liver and kidneys.

First, I must tell you I'm 33 years old. I was a smoker for 17 years. If you do the math, I was a young and stupid 16 year old fool. Once you start smoking, no matter what the reason, you are hooked. First, the nicotine creates a chemical addiction, then you develop a physical addiction. It's a double whammy that's really hard to kick. No smokers I know actually WANT to waste their money and health on smoking, but you don't know how hard it is until you're there. I tried several times (as most smokers do) to quit over the years. This year, I did it. For good.

I quit in January. I eat better, exercise as much as I can, and try to take care of my body. I can sing soprano again, and don't smell like a chimney. I'm very proud of myself.
I thought since I only smoked one pack a WEEK I would be fine. I was wrong. But the smoking isn't what got me...or was it?

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last month. Did the smoking cause it? Or was it the birth control pills I was on at the same time? Or maybe I ate too much grapefruit? Did I stand too close to the microwave?

These questions may make you grin a bit, but cancer survivors (of any kind) ask themselves these questions in all seriousness. What causes cancer? Nobody knows. It's a defect at a cellular level that is not caught by the immune system and is allowed to grow. Period. End of story. Sure, some things can encourage it, but how is it that one person can smoke and drink every day of a very long life, yet someone who does everything "right" dies of cancer at a very young age?

Be careful not to judge others. No matter what your age, sex, religion, or anything else, NOTHING provides immunity from getting cancer. One in four people will have to battle this invisible enemy at some point in your life, like it or not.

I hope with all my heart you are one of the lucky ones.

Blessings

Does it anger you when people drink alcohol or overeat too! If not it should!
The risks of ALL THREE are well known now but people still do it!
All three cause Cancers and other health problems.
FOUR things anger me!
Young people doing one, two or even all three! Do they think the warnings are just a plot to stop them 'enjoying' themselves.
People who think that there is any difference between them. ALL THREE KILL YOU!
People who always pick on smoking as if it's the only thing in life that KILLS!
The REAL anger comes though when people are given a second chance and throw it away! George Best springs readily to mind!

I smoke, don't drink, don't overeat! I don't actually want to live a long life. As a care-worker I've seen what it means to be old and infirm in this country!
You are more likely to be killed or injured in an ALCOHOL RELATED INCIDENT than you are from Passive smoking!

You cannot generalise here. Some people you notice from the moment they light up. With others they do it so neat, you don't even know they are smokers. It is a matter of how considerate you are to others and non smokers.

I think smoking itself is obvious a really bad thing. I have nothing against smokers unless like you say they are "fashionable smokers". A lot of smokers really don't like the fact that they smoke and when I have said "just stop then" they will say well it's really really hard. Never having been an addicted smoker myself I am not sure whether this is true or not but in my opinion it doesn't make someone a bad person if they smoke. I just don't think they are very strong willed. No offence to anyone of course.

People drink and know the health dangers too...doesn't stop them.
I believe that it is up to the individual whether they smoke or not.
Cancer is also caused by many other things apart from smoking, it still doesn't stop people doing those things....
I gave up 6 months ago and I'm glad I did, but you won't hear me slagging off smokers...it's a free country and I also think the law is an ****!!!

Babies and non-smokers also get cancer, so we know that cigarettes aren't solely to blame for that.

If you're worried about people dying, you should be trying to persuade them to stop driving cars, as that kills more people than cancer.

People have the right to choose what to do with their own bodies. If they don't have that right then there's no such thing as rights. I'm sorry that people smoke and I'm sorry that some of them get sick from it, but I will never presume to tell them that they can't make their own choices about anything.

Smoking is an addiction that is one of the hardest to break. Does it bother you to see ppl. drink? Drinking can kill your liver. I feel most smokers do not smoke due to fashion statements just an addiction problem.......over eating is an addiction....Does it bother you to see heavy ppl which can cause heart, lung and other problems. I do not believe one person on this earth does not have some type of addiction problem. Some people get cancer that have never smoked nor drink. My sister has sarcoma, she has never smoked or drank. Cancer is a very sad situation, but I would not blame it on someone due to smoking.

If we all adhere to what we know is, or could, be bad for us,we would basically not get out of bed(true we'd get bedsores then!).E numbers!,car accidents, the big C,plane crashes-the list is endless surely-yep i smoke, but I try not to inflict it upon other people-even before all the bans came in.
A mate of mine dropped dead of a heart attack aged 45 the other day-he didn't smoke, drink and wasn't overweight-when ur times up it's up-we are all just visiting this planet-your visa runs out sometime-enjoy what u like when u like and make the most of it.
Surely thats what our short lives are about.

I smoked for 30 years (since I was 12) and I stopped two weeks before the ban came into force on July 1. I feel great. I think that if I can do it after 30 years, anyone can

I smoked 30 a day for 20 years so I wouldn't complain if I got diagnosed with lung cancer tomorrow - I knew the risks, I took them. I haven't smoked for 5 years now and I'm sorry but I feel so much better than I did. Here endeth the lesson.
