my passion lies in real estate and i would like to pursue this. i have a 3 1/2 month old son howvever, and dont want to be on the job ALL the time as these are the most important years of his life. any suggestions if this is at all possible? the real estate market is BOOMING where i am (eastern canada) and i dont want to miss out on an amazing opportunity.

It's very possible. I started out part-time, keeping another part-time job. Eventually I had to give up the other job because it had set hours and I got busy enough with real estate that I never knew when I'd be working. But if your hours are flexible it's quite possible... it all depends on the level of income you want to make.

What you'll find though is that clients have no patience. When they want something from you they'll want it right then. If you can't respond to them because you're busy doing something else, they'll move right on to the next agent.

Yes, I worked with a man in Ontario who worked in a partnership arrangement with another man. They alternated days/evenings and weekends. His full time job was where I worked and his part time work was in real estate with a well-known real estate company.

down here in the States, about 98% of all real estate people are part time.

the issues begin to come up when a potential buyer wants your time when you need to be picking up your son at child care [or later, at school]. then you'll be inbetween the proverbial rock and hard place.
